Chemical Operator 1 - 3rd Shift - 10pm to 6:30am

About the Role

We are looking for a safety-focused and dependable Batch Operator to join our 3rd Shift manufacturing team in Waukegan.

As a Batch Operator, you will play a hands-on role in the manufacturing of high-performance coatings. You will follow established formulas and production procedures to accurately measure, weigh, stage, and process raw materials while operating production equipment safely and efficiently.

This position requires strong attention to detail, comfort working with chemicals and industrial equipment, and the ability to consistently follow established safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture coating products according to established formulas, batch instructions, and production procedures.
• Accurately weigh, measure, and add raw materials and ingredients required for each production batch.
• Follow batch tickets and manufacturing instructions to ensure products are produced accurately and consistently.
• Operate mixing and other production equipment safely and according to established operating procedures.
• Monitor the manufacturing process and identify potential safety, quality, equipment, or process concerns.
• Accurately complete batch tickets, production records, labels, and other required documentation.
• Verify materials and quantities throughout the production process to support batch accuracy, quality, and yield.
• Request, stage, and organize raw materials required to complete assigned batches.
• Properly identify, label, handle, and return unused raw materials after production.
• Move finished materials, empty containers, and waste to designated storage or disposal areas.
• Properly label, date, and transfer hazardous-waste containers to designated accumulation areas in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain production equipment, work areas, storage areas, and surrounding spaces in a clean and organized condition.
• Follow all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental requirements, including PPE and chemical-handling procedures.
• Report safety, quality, equipment, or production concerns to the Team Leader or Production Supervisor.
• Support other production activities for which you have been trained as business needs require.

Qualificaitons

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous chemical, coatings, paint, batchmaking, blending, mixing, or process-manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written batch instructions, safety procedures, and work instructions.
• Ability to accurately measure and weigh raw materials.
• Basic math skills and ability to perform calculations associated with weights, measurements, and quantities.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with formulas, materials, labels, and production documentation.
• Ability to safely work independently while also contributing as part of a manufacturing team.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

This position works in an industrial coatings manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with chemicals, raw materials, production equipment, drums, containers, and other manufacturing materials.

The role requires the ability to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Regularly climb stairs while wearing required safety footwear.
• Lift and handle materials such as 5-gallon pails and bags of raw materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
• Safely maneuver drums weighing up to 900 lbs. using appropriate material-handling equipment and established procedures.
• Bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical activities associated with manufacturing operations.
• Work in hot and cold environments and varying environmental conditions.
• Work safely in an industrial environment where chemical agents may be present.
• Read labels, batch instructions, measurements, and other detailed production information.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

You don't necessarily need previous coatings experience to be successful. We're looking for candidates who can follow detailed instructions, work safely around chemicals and manufacturing equipment, accurately measure materials, and take ownership of producing quality products.
