Job Purpose

This position exists primarily to direct, supervise and develop production employees to meet the objectives and work flow requirements implement quality processes to meet or exceed customer expectations, and to foster a proactive environment that promotes and ensures product consistency and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are carried out.
  • Ensure timely processing of production orders to meet customer requests on time.
  • Lead and supervise production employees on continuous improvement efforts to achieve manufacturing objectives.
  • Plan and organize production schedule and coordinating workloads of production employees to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Ensure action items from AkzoNobel Manufacturing Team are implemented to improve quality, costs and deliveries.
  • Provide advice and guidance in solving problems and team issues.
  • Work with Management and Human Resources to develop and implement new policies and procedures to enhance employee’s welfare and meet business needs.
  • Help with the introduction of new products into production.
  • Provide reports of production activities and take corrective action where required.
  • Assist in ensuring all manufacturing operations are in compliance with regulatory standards and Company policies.
  • Develop staff through employee education and measurement.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Support and participate in HSE&S, Product Stewardship, PSM, SAQ, LSR/LCP, BBS and JHSC.
  • Minimum 2 years leading/supervising production employees
  • Ability to work midnight shifts.
  • Experience in the coating, paint or chemical industry
  • Experience with direct reports, to recruit and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team oriented environment.
  • Intermediate level computer skills (i.e. spreadsheets, word-processing, email) to prepare statistical reports.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems while maintaining a timely and cost effective approach.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
  • 3 year post-secondary education with technical diploma or equivalent work experience
