Job Purpose
The Merchandiser is responsible for delivering excellent merchandising standards and in-store product support across Large Scale Operator (LSO) stores (e.g., GAME, Builders Warehouse, MICMAR). This role ensures strong Dulux brand presence through effective displays, point-of-sale execution, product availability, and customer assistance while driving sales through product knowledge, demonstrations, and adherence to the store call procedure.
Key Accountabilities

Merchandising standards & display execution
- Maintain AkzoNobel/Dulux shelf and display standards in line with agreed guidelines.
- Ensure shelves are consistently full (target: 95% availability) and well faced-up.
- Execute block merchandising and ensure dummy merchandising is only used when stock is not available.
- Ensure clear space in front of displays (minimum 2m) and keep stands clean, neat, and presentable.

Stock availability, storage & quality control
- Monitor stock ageing and rotate stock correctly (on shelf and in stockroom).
- Remove damaged, expired, or recalled stock from shelves immediately and manage returns daily.
- Ensure stock is stored correctly by product, accessible, and well organised in the stockroom.
- Report low/out-of-stock items to store management and the company representative; support replenishment follow-ups.

Pricing & market intelligence
- Ensure pricing is visible and accurate at all times.
- Update pricing index where required.
- Conduct shelf price surveys and share competitor and market activity feedback.

Point of Sale (POS) & brand equipment management
- Use POS materials effectively and economically, aligned to shelf and display strategy.
- Ensure in-store price flashers are used appropriately.
- Maintain DCS stands to be fully stocked daily (no empty pockets), and ensure damages are fixed within 24 hours.
- Keep brochures and brochure holders fully stocked (100%) and ensure stand lighting is functional.

Customer support & sales enablement
- Deliver strong walk-in customer service, handling queries and offering product recommendations.
- Assist customers with product specs, coverage calculations, pricing guidance, and colour selection using Dulux colour systems.
- Conduct in-store demonstrations and promote product features/benefits to drive sales.
- Implement agreed selling strategies and achieve targets set by management.

Reporting & relationship management
- Prepare regular reports including lead generation, daily sales summaries, competitor activity, and market intelligence.
- Build and maintain relationships externally with contractors, painters, lead providers, and specifying professionals.

Operational compliance
- Follow store access and operating procedures (e.g., visitors’ entrance/sign-in, greeting store manager).
- Adhere to the call procedure and store call cycles (rep call days, delivery days).
Experience
- A minimum of Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Practical customer handling and sales competence.
- Tinting machine knowledge/experience.
- POS equipment knowledge/training.
- HSE experience (preferred).
- MS Office competence.
- Strong understanding of merchandising basics (e.g., product ranging shelf execution, case quantities/pallet configurations, stock rotation).
- Professional personal presentation and the ability to build strong customer/store relationships.
- Ability to work independently in-store and follow up proactively on replenishment, delivery delays, and pricing issues.
