Job Purpose

Develop new and improve existing coating formulations and film casting methodology in alignment with Research and Development strategy and project/functional standards. Will gain insight into new developments and contribute to AkzoNobel strategic objectives.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, plan, execute, interpret and report experiments within business unit.  Deliver results according to schedule and business needs, ensuring quality and feasibility.
  • Correctly use methodologies, tools and systems while protecting AkzoNobel's technologies. 
  • Identify new technologies, technical solutions, and process optimization for coatings and paints.  Remain up-to-date on relevant research methods in the field.
  • Provide functional guidance of junior chemists and technicians.
  • Maintain and promote a safe work environment, complying with safety policies and procedures. Follow safe work practices for personal and equipment safety in the laboratory and the field. 

Job Requirements

  • Education and Experience must include one of the following:
    • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field with 10 years' Research and Development experience in coating formulations and polymer analysis.
    • Master of Science in Chemistry or related field with 5 years' experience Research and Development experience in coating formulations and polymer analysis.
    • Doctorate of Science in Chemistry or related field with 3 years' experience Research and Development experience in coating formulations and polymer analysis.
  • Knowledgeable of polymer science and organic chemistry.  Experience in design of experiment (DOE) required.
  • Experience in coating film testing, analysis, and characterization required.  Must be knowledgeable of roll-to-roll coating.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Total Compensation

The salary range for these skills is $105,000 - $115,000.  This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.  This salary range may also be modified in the future.
