Job Purpose
To execute and analyze output of practical experiments, in line with the department, R&D project and functional standards.
Key Accountabilities
Support chemists and scientists with tasks on multiple projects.
• Know and observe company and location health and safety requirements.
• Follow established practices. May develop new procedures based on input from others.
• Apply practical understanding of basic scientific principles to analyze problems and
recommend improvements.
• Prepare, modify, and monitor small batches for purposes such as testing, prototype
development, and verification.
• Prepare samples through methods such as hand or machine spray application, draw down,
pour-out, and other methods as required.
• Evaluate samples of paint and paint related materials for characteristics such as stability,
durability, and physical or chemical properties.
• Judge panels to identify characteristics and defects.
• Able to train Technician I/II on normal working practices and basic procedures.
• Maintain detailed technical records in the form of Laboratory Notebooks.
• Provide summary reporting in memo and spreadsheet formats.
• Maintain a well-stocked laboratory by taking inventory and monitoring raw material and
product consumption.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• May participate in special teams such as Safety, Housekeeping, etc.
• Perform additional duties as assigned and required
Autonomy:
• Maintains and promotes a safe work environment, complies with safety policies and
procedures. Follows safe work practices for personal and equipment safety, in both the
laboratory and in the field.
• Conducts lab work in the lab as assigned by correctly using methodologies, tools and systems.
• Documents lab results, visits, etc. through appropriate reporting systems and protect AkzoNobel technologies.
• Works under general supervision
Job Requirements
• Education
Minimally, high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Prefer 1-2 years related college education or a college degree from an unrelated field.
• Relevant Experience:
Typically 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to keep detailed technical records. Must be fluent in American English.
• Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts including proportions, percentages, fractions, and volumes. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
• Computer Skills
Minimally able to perform common tasks utilizing MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Reasoning Ability
Ability to understand, interpret, and execute a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule formats. Ability to organize and present data in graphical and tabular formats.
