Job Purpose
The Research and Development Senior Laboratory Technician executes daily project tasks and lab work requests with minimal supervision. Will be efficient at working with defined standard operating procedures (SOPs) and making minor adjustments to established product lines to achieve performance or application efficiencies. Will work closely with team members to modify existing products, manufacture new experimental formulations and trail process changes for customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct formulation or technical work in the laboratory as defined in the departmental research plan. This includes making lab scale paint batches which may require milling of pigments and use of high speed dispersers, spraying, and testing of film properties per specifications. Must be able to work within established timelines.
- Documents laboratory results through appropriate reporting systems, reporting results to stakeholders.
- Stock laboratory supplies. Maintain a clean spraybooth area which requires changing filters on a regular basis.
- Use milling equipment to make paint, spray panels, and perform testing per customer specifications.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment such as viscometers, balances, and salt spray cabinets in the laboratory.
- Promote health, safety and environmental regulations by following standards, policies, and procedures in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Associates, vocational or technical degree preferred.
- 2 years' experience in a laboratory environment. Experience in milling highly desired. Experience in paints and coatings preferred.
- Must be able to organize and interpret data, develop insights based on knowledge of chemical structures and reactivity, propose and test hypotheses, and draw conclusions.
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office.
- Fluent in English.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Regularly stand up and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool, or controls, walk and sit, lift objects up to 40 pounds.
- Wear a variety of personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety shoes, chemical resistant gloves, laboratory coat, and/or positive and negative pressure respirators.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
- Must be able to work with hazardous chemical using protective safety equipment such as respirators, gloves and safety goggles.
Rewards and Benefits
The salary range for these skills is $56,000.00 - $64,500. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
