Job Purpose
The Engineering Manager leads and drives the engineering function at AkzoNobel's Aerospace Coatings manufacturing facility, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of plant operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering processes and systems that support the production of high-quality aerospace coatings. The Engineering Manager collaborates cross-functionally to optimize manufacturing processes, ensures compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards, and leads capital projects to advance operational excellence and innovation. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical expertise, the Engineering Manager contributes to achieving the facility’s strategic objectives while supporting the long-term success of AkzoNobel.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs and oversees project management and engineering of capital and expense projects, including scope development, safety reviews, equipment specifications, quotation of equipment, bid package development, field supervision of construction, cost control, commissioning, and project closure.
- Manages the CAPEX plan on behalf of the Site Manager, delivering project studies, pre-projects, and capital projects on time, within budget, and at the required quality.
- Plans, coordinates, and embeds engineering changes up to agreed thresholds, ensuring alignment with quality and cost objectives.
- Develops and manages the Maintenance and Engineering budget, including costs, quality, service, and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) aspects, with a cost allocation model.
- Secures the reliability and availability of installations by establishing appropriate preventive maintenance and inspection plans that meet regulatory and business needs.
- Leads and scales up the manufacturing implementation of new products on site in line with the New Product Introduction Procedures (Stage Gate Process).
- Enables and drives the implementation of Continuous Improvement (CI) and ALPS initiatives, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
- Supports the site departments in investment request applications by contributing technical expertise and formalizing strategic project elements.
- Joins regional teams to lead multi-site projects and exchange best practices to enhance engineering and maintenance standards.
- Ensures site maintenance operations are planned and executed in accordance with timing, quality, and cost objectives while adhering to SHE standards.
Key Activities
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field) required; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive engineering and project management experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven ability to manage capital and expense projects, including scope development, budgeting, equipment specification, and commissioning. Experience with preventive maintenance systems, reliability engineering, and implementing CI/ALPS initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a focus on cost control, quality, and safety. Proficiency in project management software and tools, with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and multi-site projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and present technical concepts clearly.
