Job Purpose
- To lead and manage the export operations of the company, ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective international shipments.
- The Exports Manager oversees the export team, coordinates with internal departments and external partners, and ensures customer satisfaction through timely and accurate delivery of goods.
- To achieve mutual business objectives of Dulux Africa subsidiaries and external customers.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic & Operational Management
• Develop and implement export strategies aligned with business goals.
• Oversee the end-to-end export process, from order receipt to final delivery.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Team Leadership
• Manage and mentor the export coordination team.
• Set performance goals, conduct appraisals, and support professional development.
• Ensure adequate staffing and training for export operations.
Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure compliance with international trade laws, customs regulations, and Incoterms.
• Oversee the preparation and accuracy of export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, etc.).
• Liaise with legal and compliance teams to manage export controls and sanctions.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
• Serve as the primary point of contact for key export customers and partners.
• Resolve escalated issues related to shipments, documentation, or customs delays.
• Collaborate with sales, finance, and production teams to align export activities with business needs.
Logistics & Carrier Management
• Negotiate contracts and rates with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and logistics providers.
• Monitor carrier performance and ensure service level agreements are met.
• Optimize shipping routes and modes to balance cost and delivery timelines.
Reporting & Analysis
• Track and report on export KPIs (e.g., on-time delivery, cost per shipment, documentation accuracy).
• Analyze trends and provide insights to support decision-making.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly export performance reports for senior management.
Manage ad hoc projects
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 – 7 years’ experience within the Export Environment
- Good knowledge of Incoterms, Logistics documents management i.e. waybills, exports, financial instruments etc.
- Strong experience inSAP/WMS/Excel
- MS Office
- Ability to work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Freight Forwards and Bank).
