We are looking for a Powder Research & Development Supervisor to work in our São Roque Plant.

 

Job Purpose:

  • The primary purpose of this role is to oversee laboratory operations for powder coatings, ensuring product quality, supporting new product development, maintaining compliance with technical and safety standards, and providing technical support to customers and internal stakeholders.

 

 Main Job Objectives and Time Allocation:

  1. Laboratory Supervision & Team Management (20%)
    Supervise daily laboratory activities, assign tasks to technicians, ensure workload balance, and provide coaching and performance feedback to ensure efficient and accurate lab operations.
  2. Quality Control and Testing of Powder Coatings (25%)
    Conduct and oversee physical, chemical, and performance testing of powder coating products to ensure compliance with internal specifications and industry standards. Work collaboratively with the manufacturing quality control department to address production concerns.
  3. New Product Development & Technical Projects (20%)
    Lead and support the development of new powder coating products, including formulation work, lab trials, and performance evaluation.
    Desenvolve projetos de novos produtos, mantendo frequentes contatos técnicos, bem com, acompanhar os processos de certificação dos novos produtos junto aos clientes.
    Ensure technical feasibility and alignment with market and customer requirements.
  4. Customer Technical Support & Product Certification (15%)
    Provide technical assistance to customers regarding product application and performance. Support and follow up on certification processes for new products with clients, ensuring successful approval and implementation.
  5. Process Improvement & Documentation (10%)
    Identify opportunities to improve laboratory methods, efficiency, and reproducibility. Maintain accurate documentation of formulations, test results, and procedures in compliance with internal systems.
  6. Health, Safety & Equipment Maintenance (10%)
    Ensure compliance with EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) regulations, maintain laboratory equipment in proper working condition, and promote safe laboratory practices among team members.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related technical field.
  • Additional training or specialization in coatings, polymers, or surface chemistry is an advantage.

 

  • Relevant Experience
  • Several years of experience in laboratory environments within the coatings, paints, or chemical industry (preferably powder coatings).
  • Experience in quality control testing, formulation development, and product validation.
  • Prior experience in supervising or coordinating laboratory teams is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with customers on technical support or product approvals is an advantage.

  • English and Spanish - Advanced  
  • Strong technical knowledge of powder coating formulations, raw materials, and application processes.
  • Ability to perform and interpret physical, chemical, and performance testing methods.
  • Leadership and team coordination skills for managing lab technicians and daily operations.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking for troubleshooting product and process issues.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with internal departments and external customers.
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in quality control and product development.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, quality systems, and documentation practices.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory instruments and relevant software tools.
