Job Purpose

To provide technical & process support for all products to ensure new and existing products are manufactured at the right quality and efficiently

Process Engineers primary responsibility is to provide technical assistance to manufacturing operations to ensure successful product introduction, and to optimise formulations to drive efficiency gains and reduce TCQ through Right First Time & off spec production performance.

Key Accountabilities

Provide technical support to the Quality Control and manufacturing teams on the manufacture and testing of all products. Take leading role on behalf of manufacturing for the introduction of new products into the factory.

Management of, and / or participation in, small group improvement activities aimed at improving manufacturing performance whilst reducing TCOQ. Reducing out of specification product manufacture and improving Right First-Time manufacture through RCA investigation and statistical analysis.

Work to reduce the number of faulty batches through the development of preventative systems utilising the batch abnormality reporting system.  Investigate problem batches and report on the appropriate action required in a timely manner.  Identify root causes of non-right first time batches; providing and implementing preventative actions in a timely manner.

When introducing new products, ensure that the product specifications and formulations are suitable for production and in line with customer requirements.  Undertake regular pre-manufacture reviews, post manufacture reviews

Comply with safety requirements, continuously seeking potential hazards, and actively participate in safety improvement tasks according to safety policies and 5S standards to maintain a safe, efficient and comfortable working environment.

Provide technical assistance to plant and QC.  in reworking of out-of-specification material.  Complete training of Paint plant personnel in the technical aspects of paint manufacture

Take leading role is small projects (capital & non-capital) to drive productivity & quality efficiencies in the factory

Experience

Management/supervisory position in a manufacturing organisation, preferably in the coatings industry

Comprehensive knowledge of safety and quality programs relative to a laboratory environment

Practical experience in quality control activities, preferably in a paint or chemicals environment

Ability to drive safety and quality programs to other laboratory staff

Excellent communications, influencing and relationship building skills across all levels of the organisation

Demonstrate good judgement with the ability to remain objective and operate effectively when under pressure

Ability to make decisions within limits set or in the absence of higher management

Competent computer skills

 

Education

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or related field)
