Come join our AkzoNobel R&D Team at the Strongsville Technology Center in Strongsville, Ohio!


The R&D Specialist- Polymers will work on lab activities supporting the development, scale-up and manufacture of resins for our manufacturing plant. Primarily, the R&D Specialist will carry out lab-scale synthesis of commercialized resins as part of ongoing support work as well as novel resins for scale-up. The R&D Specialist will handle lab requests involving resin synthesis and raw material evaluation and work on development and support projects under the guidance of a senior chemist.

Key Accountabilities

  • Synthesizing resin at lab scale as part of project or plant support work.
  • Manage lab work requests related to synthesizing resin and/or evaluation of new raw materials
  • Participate on projects involving new resin development under the direction of a senior chemist
  • Participate in calls with the manufacturing plant to review resin production activities
  • Ask appropriate questions to clarify requirements, expectations and critical performance parameters
  • Communicate results to a wide range of audiences (other chemists, plant personnel, marketing/commercial teams) through written reports and presentations using an appropriate level of technical detail.
  • Participate in site HSE initiatives such as BBS and safety day. Follow all site safety regulations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Previous experience with polymer synthesis a plus
  • Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing environment a plus
  • Compliance with all site HSES policies and requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
