Electrical Maintenance Engineer (Site Responsible)

Job Purpose
We are looking for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, reliability and performance of our Stowmarket site. You will oversee engineering standards, asset care, maintenance excellence and continuous improvement, while providing strong leadership to our engineering and maintenance teams.
You will be accountable for compliance of electrical, control and instrumentation systems, delivering safe and reliable plant performance, driving Lean and CI initiatives, and supporting major capital investment planning and delivery. This role is critical to maintaining a worldclass manufacturing environment and enabling long-term asset development.
Key Responsibilities

Help to develop engineering and maintenance teams, building a culture of learning, continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability.

Drive and embed a strong HSE, Quality and Sustainability culture, ensuring full compliance with statutory, industry and AkzoNobel standards.

Own and improve engineering governance, including process safety, PUWER, ATEX/DSEAR compliance and safe systems of work.

Provide technical expertise for electrical, control and instrumentation systems, ensuring integrity, standardisation and site-wide support.

Lead or support capital project development and execution, from small improvements to major site upgrades, ensuring they meet cost, safety and performance expectations.

Use Lean, Six Sigma and CI methodologies to identify waste reduction, improve productivity and optimise asset utilisation.

Support troubleshooting, defect elimination and root cause investigations to resolve equipment or process-related issues.

Maintain accurate engineering documentation and CMMS records, ensuring compliance with safety critical and quality critical maintenance requirements.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Product Development and Global Technology — to drive best practice and ensure the long-term development of site processes and technology.
Job Requirements

Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.

Strong experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within coatings, chemicals or a related process industry.

Demonstrated leadership capability with experience managing teams in a Lean or continuous improvement environment.

Strong technical knowledge of ECI systems, industrial automation, process safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Experience in project management, asset management and reliability engineering.

Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to motivate and develop others.
