Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing communication strategies and partnership that drive AkzoNobel’s reputation with key stakeholders which are aligned to the overall company positioning in supporting business growth
  • Act as an official press officer/spokesperson for the region (first point of contact - media phone and media mailbox) and as the trusted communications advisor to the businesses and country leadership team
  • Support the global media team, specifically with:
    • Preparing interviews for AkzoNobel executives and specialists who act as company spokespeople
    • Keeping the local press system up to date (make sure all news is logged in the global system)
    • Creation of holding statements, press releases and Q&As on local issues
    • Organizing media events i.e. media briefings, media lunches, planning interviews, media trips, blogger/vlogger outreach, etc.
    • Provide crisis and issues management support (when affecting the AkzoNobel brand)
  • Monitor and report progress against agreed external communications (traditional and non-traditional) targets and objectives as defined by the global media relations function and market objectives
    • Share of voice
    • Tone of voice
    • Message penetration
    • Reach, etc.
  • In case of crisis, act as first line of contact for media and responsible for monitoring and analysing (online and offline) press coverage
  • Responsible for designing integrated communication strategies that drive AkzoNobel’s brand and strategy, the business objectives, using the overall reputation drivers (innovation-sustainability and human cities) in the specified countries
  • Reaches out pro-actively to the AkzoNobel business in the market and translating business requirements into communications campaigns, in line with the overall strategic communications plan of the Businesses
  • Team up and providing strategic business partnering to internal stakeholders from HR, Finance, Marketing, R&D and Operations in the countries to generate relevant storytelling and campaigns that support the deployment of the business strategy and drive engagement

Responsibilities (continue)

  • Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to translate internal values and external market information into integrated communications campaigns that are innovative 
  • Be familiar and feel comfortable with applicable corporate, business as well as site policies and procedures to always communicate in line with all applicable regulations
  • Manages the business editorial calendar to make, together with the colleagues of the local communications team in the market and the colleagues in the Business Areas, to ensure all business activities will be aligned with the global editorial calendar
  • Understanding of new internal communications techniques, internal social engagement platforms and the ability to translate these into locally relevant engagement opportunities
  • Proven ability to manage and implement national internal engagement and change communications programs, with a proven track record of digital campaigns and execution
  • Responsible for designing internal communication strategies that drive AkzoNobel’s internal engagement and help to transform AkzoNobel employees into true ambassadors of the brand and the strategy, using the overall reputation drivers (innovation-sustainability and human cities)
  • Implements and maintains a locally relevant internal communications structure with efficient and effective tools, processes and systems
    • Monitoring and measurement of the results/outcomes of all internal communications activities
    • Follows and implements internal communications, engagement and change communications
    • Be familiar and feel comfortable with all the applicable corporate as well as site policies and procedures with regards to personal conduction and always cat in line with all applicable regulations
    • Manages the local editorial calender, together with the rest of the Integrated Communications team, to ensure that local activities are aligned with the global editorial calendar

Requirements

  • Degree in communications/public relations or journalism, with exceptional writing and presentation skills
  • A strong and established network of (traditional and non-traditional) general and specialized media and other key opinion former contacts
  • Experience working in an international matrix organization
  • Experienced in public affairs, media relations and social media 
  • Experience with complex communication issues, crisis communications and spokesmanship
  • Understanding of new communications techniques, digital engagement platforms and the ability to translate these into business opportunities
  • Proven ability to manage and implement both national and global external communications campaigns with a proven track record of digital campaigns and execution
  • Pro-active attitude and comfortable with working under pressure
  • Team player with an open and energetic attitude, easy to shift between tasks and responsibilities who can work independently as well
  • Ability to work under pressure
