Job Purpose

• To provide technical expertise and guidance related to the selection and specification of products, materials, and system for construction projects
• To manage a network of architects, consultants, developers, main contractors and applicators
• To follow up and secure projects from main contractors or applicators  

Key Accountabilities

1. Product Research and Evaluation: Conducting research to identify and evaluate products, materials, and systems that meet the project requirements. This involves studying product specifications, performance data, industry standards, and applicable regulations. 
2. Specification Development: Developing detailed project specifications that define the requirements and standards for products and materials to be used in the construction project. This includes selecting appropriate products, determining quality standards, and ensuring compliance with codes and regulations. 
3. Collaboration with Design Team: Working closely with architects, engineers, and other members of the design team to understand project goals, design intent, and functional requirements. Collaborating in the development of design concepts and providing technical input on product selection and compatibility. 
4. Product and Vendor Selection: Recommending specific products, materials, and vendors based on their suitability for the project requirements. This involves evaluating factors such as performance, durability, cost, availability, and environmental impact. 
5. Standards and Codes Compliance: Ensuring that all specified products and materials meet relevant industry standards, building codes, and regulations. Staying updated on the latest codes and standards and making recommendations to ensure compliance. 
6. Documentation and Specification Writing: Creating accurate and detailed specifications that clearly communicate the requirements for products, materials, and systems. This includes writing technical descriptions, performance criteria, installation guidelines, and other relevant information. 
7. Value Engineering: Collaborating with the project team to identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality and performance. Suggesting alternative products or materials that provide similar functionality but may offer cost savings. 
8. Technical Support and Consultation: Providing technical support and guidance to the project team, including contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers. Addressing inquiries, clarifying specifications, and resolving technical issues that may arise during the construction process. 
9. Product Knowledge and Training: Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in construction products, materials, and systems. Attending industry seminars, workshops, and product demonstrations to enhance knowledge and provide training to the project team as needed. 
10. Quality Control and Assurance: Collaborating with quality control personnel to ensure that specified products and materials are installed correctly and meet the desired performance standards. Conducting periodic site visits and inspections to verify compliance. 
11. Sales Strategy Development: Developing a sales strategy for the project(s) to meet sales targets and objectives. This involves analyzing market trends, identifying target customers, and determining the most effective sales approach. 
12. Sales Planning and Forecasting: Creating a sales plan for the project(s), including setting sales targets and forecasting sales volumes. This involves analyzing historical sales data, market conditions, and project requirements to develop realistic sales projections. 

 

Experience

• Background in paints and coatings industry, 5-10 years of work experience in commercial roles or technical service or sales project management or Quality, with knowledge of Coatings/ Paints product use and application
• Experience in customer negotiations and contracting related to quality, complaints and claims
• Skills – Leadership, stakeholder management, project management, drive, result orientation, communication and commercial and business acumen. Understanding of financial concepts related to sales and cross functional processes (sales, technical service and manufacturing)
