Purpose of the job

The portfolio of Additives is technically one of the most complicated and commercially most complex portfolio (>4,500 Raw Materials, 30% of AkzoNobel portfolio, 664M Euro Spend, >1,000 Suppliers).

The Technical Category Leader Additives works together with the R&D teams, the Sourcing Director and their team on the raw material portfolio simplification strategy and implementation of the diverse portfolio that makes up the RM category ‘Additives’.
 

Key responsibilities

  • Develops the technical strategy for the Additives raw material portfolio, with the main goal to reduce complexity in the portfolio.
  • Functionally leads raw material specialists involved in raw material groups (Slates) for Additives
  • Takes a global, P&C view on Additives portfolio by building and maintaining a network across BU’s.
  • Acts as gate keeper in raw material portfolio management for Additives (introduction approvals, deletions, slate classifications)
  • Technical counterpart for sourcing category lead for Additives.
  • Continuously drives implementation of potential alternatives, value engineering opportunities and “smart” opportunities to accelerate phase out of non-core materials, working closely with the R&D and Productmanagement function in the BU.
  • Provides guidance and advices alternative solutions in case of supply contingency issues
  • Drives a continuous effort to increase data quality and consistency in raw material slates
  • Ensures protection of AkzoNobel IP/technologies
  • Trains and coaches colleagues to build knowledge and expertise
  • Contributes to ongoing (process related) projects in the team

What do you bring?

  • MSc or PhD in technical / scientific background such as Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • In-depth understanding of coatings technology, and formulations and raw materials used in paints a/o coatings
  • Typically >10 years experience in paints a/o coatings company, as a formulator and project team member.
  • Experience with working internationally and with multiple disciplines (procurement, R&D, supply chain)
  • Ability to influence and motivate persons to getting things done beyond the hierarchical reporting lines
  • Strong affinity with change management and willingness to challenge the status-quo
  • Proven track record of providing solutions for technical challenges based on deep scientific knowledge and on profound understanding of customer needs.
