Purpose of the job

This Vacancy is for 3 FTE / 3 positions R&D Specialist PDC Trim

Within the PDC Trim Paints EMEA in Sassenheim (NL) – the Product Development Centre responsible for the development and the support of all decorative trim paints in Europe and Africa 



  • You will work in an international R&D team, reporting to your team leader or (occasionally) to a PDC project leader.
  • You will contribute to a variety of projects as defined in the departmental plan.
  • The PDC Trim team focuses on the development of new and improvement of existing waterborne and solvent-based lacquers for the European market, as well as complexity reduction and cost saving initiatives.




  • Set up and conduct experimental lab work autonomously within provided project framework and timelines, with the aim to develop new products and improve existing formulations for EMEA according to market requirements.
  • Carry out your own experiments in the lab, analyze the results and draw conclusions. Based on your experience it is expected you will be able to recommend next steps while reporting back to your project leader.
  • Organize your planning in accordance to timelines and priorities discussed with your team leader.
  • Test new and replace existing raw materials, if relevant by consulting colleagues and by studying related projects.
  • Evaluate and optimise cost / performance properties of recipes. 
  • Support Production by solving issues and guiding of trial batches of new recipes.
  • Report back in labnotes and small reports, and present results in project meetings.
  • Based on your experience you could give guidance to starters and trainees.


What do you bring?

  • Bachelor of Science/Higher Vocational Education (Dutch: HBO) with a few years of experience in a relevant R&D position
  • Or: Intermediate Vocational Education (Dutch: MBO-4 level) with extensive experience in a relevant R&D position
  • Experience in the field of decorative coatings and paint preparation would be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of English (and preferably Dutch) and the affinity to quickly learn and master internally used software packages
  • Enthusiastic, responsible and motivated team player
