R&D Specialist II

Job Purpose

The Physical Lab Specialist II for corrosion testing is responsible for executing and delivering required corrosion paint testing’s within pre-agreed timelines to both local and global (cross-BU) requestors to support new & incremental product development activities taking place locally and/or globally. The Specialist II in the corrosion testing area will also develop and implement automized testing protocols to create symbiosis of high-throughput, automatized testing and working on digital and intelligent tools for the screening of corrosion-resistant materials in specific environments. 
The Specialist can act as a member of a project team contributing to the realization of objectives of research/ development/ support projects and provide support to customers with respect to validating the system properties for internal and external approvals with short and long term testing’s.
Maintain state-of-the-art quality standards for the provided physical lab services. 

Responsibilities

•    Work closely with customers to determine project/business related needs and translate them into corrosion and other physical testing activities and/or method development requirements. Discuss project needs with local R&D teams in terms of support, test set-ups and planning. 
•    Implement automatized corrosion evaluation methods with digital and intelligent tools which can replace the traditional manual judgments.
•    Act as a partner in project teams and can discuss/ explain physical findings with the information obtained by others. 
•    Execute request as per the standard methods as prescribed with the precision of quality and delivery on agreed time.
•    Create a weekly planning and take care for the execution of these. Flag risks and take potential mitigation actions in advance.
•    Co-ordinate and organize requested tests with team members. 
•    Communicate the results in forms of lab reports or presentations to the customers and be able to prepare technical reports. 
•    Keep up with new developments in corrosion testing and other physical test methods and technologies
•    Read execute testing’s as per the standard OEM methods.
•    Execute on time assigned calibrations activities and take care for the SMA and Calibration procedures according to the quality plan. 
•    Take care for the regular maintenance of equipment. 
•    Maintain safety and quality standards in all operations.
•    Work in accordance with QHSE guidelines.

What do you bring

•    Chemist with BSc/HBO degree with interest in physical chemistry. 
•    Preferably knowledge in the area of paint related corrosion characterization techniques.  
•    Affinity with automatization and robotic setups. 
•    Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to easily adapt new software tools.
•    Curious and drive to improve him or herself and able to understand trends in analyze and automatization techniques and how these can influence departmental scope.
•    Good time management and communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external customers as well as the team on analysis plan set-up, results expectations and outcome, workload, timing, analysis issues and prioritization. 
•    Flexible attitude and willing to help colleagues within the physical service team based on priorities.
•    Good reporting and presentation skills, both in Dutch and English.
•    Accurate, organized, critical and result focused.
•    High safety awareness and a proactive approach with respect to laboratory safety, committed to quality, 5S and company HSE standards.
•    Pro-active and pragmatic self-starter.
