Purpose of the Job

The R&D Service Manager is responsible for the delivery of required services within pre-agreed timelines to both local and global requestors. Drives continuous improvement in the way Analytical, Physical and Application services are delivered to our customers base. The job holder initiates programs to drive efficiencies in the services labs within BU ASC world wide and is the focal point regarding the above mentioned services for the R&D organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring that the results and conclusions from the services teams are accurate and based on sound principles using correct tests methods, procedures and quality standards.
  • Ensures that the latest knowledge from within and outside company is used in order to improve processes and quality.
  • Ensures regular communication to project principles, R&D management and other stakeholders about status of running activities. Initiates corrective actions when needed.  
  • Actively builds/manages an internal and external network in the Analytical/Physical/Application science area and acts as a focal point for both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Partners with local and global technology, development and solution teams as well as local operations in order to ensure that available resources are deployed in line with short and longer term business objectives
  • Drives standardization of working procedures and where possible equipment in labs locally and across the world in order to ensure optimal use of equipment and resources and delivery of results with appropriate quality
  • Futureproofs in-house analytical and physical testing capabilities in line with business needs and ensures external accessability to appropriate high-end analytical and physical testing capabilities (e.g. Universities, Service providers) that are decided not to be available in-house
  • Is  familiar with all the applicable corporate as well as site and laboratory policies/procedures with regard to personal conduct, HSE and Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) standards and ensuring that all R&D staff in the team(s) works according to AN HSE and compliance policies.
     

What do you bring?

  • Academic educational level (MSc or higher) in Science, preferably Chemistry or Physics - or comparable experience.
  • At least 10 years proven track record of industrial experience in multinational organization
  • Profound knowledge in the area of analytical, physical and application science
  • Adequate knowledge of paint technology and physical properties of paint
  • Strong drive to optimize processes using continuous improvement, LEAN, 6 Sigma and Agile.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with suppliers and customers to drive mutually beneficial projects and workplans
  • Ability to identify opportunities and/or translate internal customer demands into projects/programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English at all levels and across all functions
  • Pro-active, pragmatic self-starter, high safety awareness
  • Ability to think differently and a continuous drive to improve him or herself as well as to inspire the team
