Purpose of the Job

To manage a team of Technicians, Specialists and Researchers in the Aerospace Solutions lab Sassenheim
Responsible for recipe ownership, product maintenance, production support (global) for Aerospace EMEA recipes

Key Responsibilities

Maintains and promotes a safe work environment, complies with safety policies and procedures. Follows safe work practices for personal and equipment safety, in both the laboratory and in the field. End results are zero or minimum safety incidents and a clean, orderly working environment
Recipe ownership of Aerospace Sassenheim recipes
People management: attracting, leading, coaching, appraising, and developing team members 
Coaching and guiding of local designees globally
High degree of customer facing activities (a.o. technical support, complaint investigations)
Supports complaint investigations and quality improvement initiatives
Maintains and develops active communication lines with key suppliers. 
Ensure proper global production support for Aerospace Sassenheim recipes
Drive value engineering and portfolio management initiatives in existing product lines
Part of the lab management team dealing with safety, 5S, performance reviews, CAPEX investments.
Maintain good communication lines with several departments within AkzoNobel. Notably: procurement, production, integrated supply chain, product management, sales, color marketing, PSRA and local designees
Manage the execution of LWR portfolio in own team, safeguard planning and resource budget
Drive improvement processes to increase right-first-time production
Works according to quality standards as set by Lab management (a.o. AS9100, Airbus IPCA)
Focuses on the continuous improvement of the aerospace products produced in Sassenheim 
Provides support to the New Product Development team 
Sets up new recipes and QC protocols in the relevant systems, and maintains them

What do you bring?

High level of autonomy. Plans and executes work based on priorities set in consultation with lab manager and business function.

Academic educational level (MSc or higher) in Science, preferably Chemistry or Physics or comparable experience

Thorough knowledge of coating formulations and product development; Knowledge of polymer chemistry is an advantage
At least 5 years of experience in laboratory environment
People management experience
Well organized, can keep good overview 
High Quality awareness and drive
Knowledge of statistics and DoE
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Speaks and writes the English language fluently. 
Pro-active, pragmatic self-starter, high safety awareness
Ability to challenge conventions and a continuous drive to improve him or herself and the team
