Job Purpose

In your role as functional engineer advanced analytics, you will support multiple business initiatives around data. You will be responsible for setting up and maintaining the large amount of required data pipelines that support those experimental and explorative initiatives and advice on best practices and future data strategies. You will set up a monitoring model to guarantee agreed levels of data quality and track the metrics associated with. You will keep track of the latest developments related to data and you will advise senior management on steps to take to enhance the value of data in our organization. You will have an active role in further defining of our new cloud-based data platform.

The Functional Engineer in Application Delivery is responsible for detailing design and hardwiring business requirements as per Architectural and Security guidelines. This is done through projects, changes and increasingly more through Agile DevOps teams. This requires high quality Stories (change specifications) and projects changes which will allow Engineers and/or Developers to translate into code/configuration. The Functional Engineer sees to properly coordinate, review, approve and execute stories/project changes and has an active role monitoring status, in (unit)testing and change management once developed, including organizing sign-off after testing.
The Functional Engineer has an active role in the preparation and execution of the actual changes together with our partners and external consultants where applicable. On request, a Functional Engineer can be asked to be involved in solving urgent high priority incidents and plays a role in process improvements alongside with business. 

Depending on the domain and the progress of IT Fusion in our organization, the work is either done being part of the responsibilities in the line management organization, or in agile teams under the leadership of a Scrum Master, or in the case of a waterfall under the leadership of the Project Manager. Depending on the seniority of the Engineer, he/she will also assume these project management activities as a role or will take the lead in delivery of end-to-end changes. It is the intention that more and more work get done as part of the standing organization and no longer create a project for every single change that needs to be done.

Responsibilities

• Are responsible for the data pipelines supporting the landscape and stack for experimentation and exploration.
• Develop data pipelines between sources and targets.
• Support the business initiatives in their data driven experiments and explorations.
• Set up a monitor model to monitor and maintain data pipelines and data transfer processes.
• Assist and execute in designing and developing effective data strategies.
• Oversee data related projects to extract, manage, and analyze data from multiple applications, ensuring that deadlines are met.
• Track key performance metrics on the managed data landscape across departments.
• Identify business opportunities and ensure internal customer satisfaction.
• Generate reports of findings and present these to management.
• Keep abreast of industry best practices and connect Insights from data to Solutions.
• Identify trends and opportunities for growth through analysis and usage of complex data sets.
• Participate in the development of a central data platform to leverage different types and sources of data.

What do you bring

• Strong ETL and data extraction skills.
• Strong SQL and/or MySQL skills, ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
• Working knowledge of data mining principles: predictive analytics, mapping, collecting data from multiple data systems on premises and cloud-based data sources.
• Results-driven and ability to handle multiple projects.
• Understanding of and experience using analytical concepts and statistical techniques: hypothesis development, designing tests/experiments, analyzing data.
• Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities.
• Understands sensitivity and security questions around data.
• Able to act in a complex multinational environment.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal and time-management skill

Preferred skills
• Skills in Data Factory, Azure, Databricks, R, Python, different types of ETL tools
• Skills with data visualization tools like Tibco Spotfire, Microsoft PowerBI

Relevant experience:
• Experience with Cloud concepts
• Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud solutions
• Experience with data preparation tools: e.g. Alteryx, Azure Data Factory, Databricks
• Experience in a Data Engineer position or similar role is required. 
• Work in an agile environment.

Educational qualifications
• Bachelor's / Master Degree in Analytics, Computer Science, or related field
