Job Purpose

The Engineering Manager has overall responsibility for site maintenance and engineering activity, to include engineering related safety, quality, continuous process improvement efforts, and execution of capital projects.  Reporting to the Engineering Manager will be the Maintenance Lead, and Maintenance Mechanics.  This is a process safety management facility that handles flammable materials in bulk.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for overall site engineering and maintenance activity ensuring that customer orders are shipped on time and products conform to established customer and company quality standards 
  • Champion the Process Safety Management Program and support compliance with local, state, federal, and AkzoNobel standards 
  • Assure that assets are utilized and maintained properly to maximize shareholder value 
  • Analyze equipment reliability and implement action plans to reduce and eliminate failures  
  • Evaluate and execute continuous process improvements and lean manufacturing initiatives 
  • Responsible for the selection, training, development and motivation of all maintenance and engineering personnel using such tools as the Performance & Development Dialog processes 
  • Directs the activities of planning, implementing, and maintaining mechanical integrity programs, maintenance policies and procedures for proper training, safety, health and plant protection to provide an adequate efficient work force always   
  • Directs the execution of Capital Investments Projects, coordinating the activities with the HSE&S, Quality, and Production Departments 
  • Responsible for communication with subcontractors and suppliers to optimize activities performed by them. Ensures compliance with all HSE&S procedures and regulations
  • Engages the team by providing good communication and fostering excellent team spirit
  • All site management position team members have health, safety, environmental and security responsibilities including HSE&S management and improvement, health, and safety rules for employees and contractors, security of people and assets, management of change, meeting of regulatory requirements, environmental protection and pollution prevention, sustainability and lifesaving rules 
  • Some positions also have responsibilities that include contractor management, asset integrity, process and equipment design, equipment operation, maintenance and equipment integrity 

 

Site management position team members have access to the HSE&S training resources and have the responsibility to use these resources to complete the required training 
 

Required Experience

 

  • BS in Engineering required (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical preferred) 
  • Preferred candidate will have seven or more years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing support  
  • Preferred candidate will have experience in a chemistry/coatings/resin plant and be familiar with Process Safety Management  
  • Candidate should show demonstrated process improvements through structured methodology (A3, root cause, PDCA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).  Certifications (Green/Black belt) are preferred. 
  • Candidate must have strong Microsoft Office/Power BI/SharePoint skills.  Experience with various control systems is a plus
  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) capable of conversing and being understood by employees at all levels of the supply chain.  Exceptional aptitude in technical writing, particularly for Standard Operating Procedures and Training documents, is required
