Job Purpose

The Lab Technician supports daily project tasks and lab work requests under supervision. The employee will be proficient at working with defined standard operating procedures (SOPs) and with guidance, making minor adjustments to established product lines to achieve requested project results. The employee must constructively interact with all other Research and Development personnel to facilitate a well-run organization

Key Accountabilities

The Lab Technician performs each essential duty safely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner

 

  • Undertake Research and Development fast track processes including powder preparation, spraying, testing, and evaluation of powder coatings to meet specific project requirements
  • Understand and follow a batch ticket (recipe) with high degree of accuracy for weights and measurements
  • Follow daily work plan for Lab Work Request or project plan
  • Correctly label all samples whether powder or panels
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment 
  • Identify issues and root cause.  Collects data and information to understand (potential) issues and supports identification of root cause
  • Implement solutions.  Uses best-practices and past solutions for identified issues and implements prescribed steps for effective resolution
  • Apply techniques, methodology and tools.  Demonstrate basic understanding of relevant existing techniques & methodologies; follows the principles of techniques and methodologies in own work
  • Promote the quality system through adhering to the elements of and being familiar with the philosophy, quality statement, and procedures
  • Promote health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements
  • Attend and participate in Powder Research and Development programs/committees/training as required, such as Department Safety, Behavioral Safety (BBS), Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs
  • Adhere to the Golden Principle which is simply to intervene to stop work if conditions or behavior are unsafe

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years’ work experience in laboratory or manufacturing environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Essential Qualifications

  • Conform with all site and laboratory safety requirements and policies, including participation in AkzoNobel safety programs including audits, safety meetings, and demonstrating safe practices and behaviors    
  • Self-motivated, proactive, quick learner
  • Effective interpersonal skills, keeping direct manager and team members informed of progress
  • Maintain excellent relationships within the scope of their work
  • Demonstrate continuous commitment to business goals and initiatives as sole contributor
