Job Purpose

Manage Research and Development activities and day-to-day operations through the supervision and management of a team. Will actively engage in product development, product maintenance, the introduction of new products to customers, and support during the manufacturing process for the Architectural business segment.  Will develop and implement an operational plan and objectives with responsibility for performance and talent management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organizes, manages and supports the Research and Development resources and projects assigned to the Architectural Research and Development team.
  • Defines and implements Research and Development programs designed to maintain and grow the powder business.  Will work effectively with marketing, sales and production to achieve business goals.
  • Implements strategic plans to meet overall lab goals regarding safety, product and formula rationalization, and development of laboratory staff.
  • Provides immediate, active and direct support for production and customer problems, to rapidly identify root cause and implement permanent corrective action.
  • Visits customer facilities to supervise trials runs of new products, trouble shoot products on-line, and to make formal presentations to customers.
  • Coordinates lab-wide activities concerning personnel management, raw material rationalization and control and synergy with manufacturing.
  • Effectively interfaces with AkzoNobel technical employees in North America and other worldwide laboratories to achieve a cohesive international strategy.
  • Represents AkzoNobel as a technology leader to colleagues, customers, suppliers, and the coatings industry.

Job Requirements

  • Education and experience must include one of the following:
    • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science with 10 years' experience in coatings science and technology
    • Master of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science with 7 years' experience in coatings science and technology
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science with 4 years' experience in coatings science and technology
  • Strong knowledge of powder coatings chemistries and raw materials, powder application, and powder manufacturing.
  • Knowledgeable of the United States Architectural powder coatings market.  Global knowledge preferred.
  • Experience working within multi-cultural and international environment.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Total Rewards

The salary range for these skills is: $91,000.00 - $101,000.00.  This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.  This salary range may also be modified in the future.
