1st Shift Production Operator


Hours: 6:00am - 2:30pm  Monday- Friday

Job Purpose


Assembles and fills batches of Coatings products according to standard procedures.  Operates and maintains the necessary equipment do so.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assembles, weighs, measures, counts materials and containers for coatings and paint products batches by reading and strictly following batch tickets, work instructions, and SOPs.  
  • Doses intermediates and raw materials into production tanks manually or via Automated Equipment using computer interface.
  • Operates mixers, drum lifters, bridge crane, pallet jacks, scales, pumps, filters, flow meters, and other equipment necessary to assemble and fill batches.
  • Accurately records production and/or QC data (quantities, lot numbers, test results, etc.) on batch tickets and other related documents.
  • Performs basic QC tests such as viscosity, density, solids, etc., according to SOPs to determine product conformance with quality specifications.
  • Fills approved batches by weight into cans, pails, or drums using pressure filtration equipment.  Labels, palletizes, and shrink wraps containers and insures that orders are ready for shipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance work on equipment in the manufacturing areas.
  • Troubleshoots equipment according to written instructions to resolve minor malfunctions.
  • Cleans production tanks, mixers, and other equipment using tank cleaner and/or manually.
  • Actively participates in Kaizen / Root Cause Analysis program to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Follows 5S housekeeping and workplace organization program.
  • Uses Yoshi system (point, focus, verbalize) to prevent human errors in reading material codes, etc.
  • Follows all standard practices, policies, and procedures with a high level of discipline.
  • Maintains a safe workplace by following all SOPs, wearing proper personal protective equipment, performing bonding and grounding, using good lifting practices, and keeping workplace clean and organized.
  • Follows all applicable environmental regulations and corporate policies.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.  
  • Two plus years’ experience in raw material Staging, Batch Making and/or Filling.  
  • Passing score is required in Reading for Information, Applied Math and Locating Information (reading graphs/forms) is one of the elements for this position. 
  • Good history of job performance within the company: high level of time on task, good attendance record, follows procedures, suggests improvements to procedures. 
  • Be able to lift 65 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
  • Also requires extensive bending and stooping.  
  • Candidate must be able to work in a manufacturing & laboratory environment and be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator.  To wear a respirator per OSHA regulations, candidate must pass medical evaluation and fit testing to qualify as a respirator user.
