Job Purpose

The Tax Manager position involves ensuring that U.S. financial results are properly reported on annual income tax return, quarterly and annual financial statements and are supportable upon audit by U.S. tax authorities. 
This position will be located in the North America AkzoNobel Headquarters Office in Nashville, TN

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of tax professionals (internal and external) in preparation of complex federal consolidated tax return and estimated tax payments; Review the federal tax returns prepared by outsourced provider to ensure: a) significant and unusual transactions are reported properly, b) international reporting forms are complete and reasonable, and c) required statements and elections are included and proper 
  • Work with outsourced provider to establish and ensure compliance with procedures that enhance the quality of federal tax packages prepared by Business Unit personnel.  Stay current with tax technology solutions that may be implemented to improve tax return and accounting processes
  • Act as tax liaison to accounting shared service center(s) to provide training and develop procedures for completion of tax packages.  
  • Manage the financial reporting tax accounting work done by outsourced provider to ensure that U.S. income tax accounts are fairly stated in the AkzoNobel financial statements.  Review monthly tax provision prepared by accounting and collaborate with accounting to streamline tax reporting process.
  • Maintain critical tax information to assist with acquisition and disposition analyses and strategies and transfer pricing planning and compliance 
  • Assist with federal and state audits including preparation of draft responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs) with input from business unit and other AkzoNobel personnel and 
  • maintenance of files of all audit activity including IDRs and responses with documentation, proposed and final adjustments, and statute of limitation waivers.
  • Prepare tax related purchase accounting analysis for all acquisitions by ANI and subsidiaries.
  • Document adherence to US Federal income tax controls in accordance with companywide procedures established to ensure compliance with internal controls.
  • Research tax issues and document results in writing.
  • Extract information from HFM to prepare segmentation analysis for Transfer Pricing documentation.
  • Extract general ledger information from SAP to support the compliance and tax audit process.
  • Review the FEM to identify any key IFRS accounting changes that may have tax applicability and to provide monthly updates.
  • Develop process for recording of monthly, hard close and year end Canadian provision.
  • Assist in development of new processes and procedures in relation to the Finance Transformation and development of the RAC.  Serve as lead US ATD representative to ensure the needs of our department are met as efficiently as possible.

Job Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • 5 plus years of corporate income tax experience, public accounting experience preferred
  • Expertise in accounting for income tax, corporate income tax including inventory/accounting methods, consolidated return rules, and depreciation
  • Ability to document tax returns and other tax matters in electronic workpapers so they can be referenced in the future including for tax and financial statement audits
  • Proven analytical skills that recognize tax impact of business transactions
  • Ability to communicate tax issues in writing for both tax and non-tax users.
  • Experience with tax provision software
  • Experience in extracting data from SAP preferred
