Job Purpose

This job is a combined role of Solution Architect and Project Consultant with a focus on SAP Sales and Distribution. The Solution Architect is responsible to translate functional requirements into a solution and describing it through architecture and designs. The architecture and designs are expected to be in line with business processes and architectural standards, guidelines and roadmaps. The Project Consultant is responsible for delivery and solution realization and enabling the execution of projects, managed by the project manager.

The role reports into the Functional Domain Lead Marketing and Sales in the Center of Expertise.  The Center of Expertise Information Management is responsible for providing sustainable, efficient, robust and secured workplace and core Information Technology solutions. In addition, the team will be responsible to train, educate and ensure the right capabilities are available to meet the business project and major change needs. The Center of Excellence is responsible to match resource demand with supply, to ensure delivery of required resources and that the target utilization rate of the resources is met.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports Business Information and Value Management in writing project charters.  Builds and maintains close contact with the Business Information and Value Management organization and the Global Process Organization network 
  • Translates business demand into (detailed) requirements and appropriate solutions within the functional area, within agreed Enterprise Architecture roadmaps
  • Performs impact assessments on business demand and high-level requirements to uncover and mitigate gaps with strategy, policy, guidelines, budget and operational supportability 
  • Performs complex analysis (e.g. scenario analysis), on own and other impacted domains and advise on business impact, (process) optimization, implementation planning and approach, cost and effort
  • Designs and documents moderately/complex “fit for purpose” solutions using a structured approach and approved template models
  • Ensures quality and consistency with template design for deployments
  • Drives implementation of solutions in adherence with the solution design
  • Actively uses and promotes best practice solutions 
  • Monitors the market to obtain knowledge and understanding of currently emerging technologies in own area of expertise.  Evaluates benefits and relevance for AkzoNobel
  • Supports the staffing process for architects on Business Information and Value Management related work
  • Recognizes potential strategic application of Information Technology solutions/assets to the benefit of AkzoNobel
  • Anticipates major changes affecting the organization and mobilizes resources
  • Contributes to the realization of the solution in close collaboration with the project team, the project manager, Solution Architects and business stakeholders
  • Works under operational guidance of project managers to plan and execute projects according to the Chief Information Officer office guidelines and Information Management processes 
  • Performs identification, analysis, mapping and documentation of information needs of current and future processes/systems
  • Ensures that requirements defined in solution description are implemented accordingly
  • Identifies, handles and resolves project delivery issues in the associated (business) domain
  • Manages project products and configuration management for deliverables such as process flows, specifications and functional/technical designs

  • Works with users to ensure the project meets business needs
  • Facilitates user testing and user acceptance testing
  • Facilitates user training and workshops
  • Cooperates and collaborates with Global Business Services-Information Management on Service Introduction management
  • Shares specific knowledge on processes and systems in the projects
  • Executes major changes, as part of the change management process

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field of study required.  
  • 10 years of experience in Information Technology to include 5 years’ implementation experience in SAP Sales and Distribution, related integrations and ideally with other parts of SAP solutions such as Logistics Execution, Customer Services or Financial Accounting and Controlling
  • Knowledge of and experience with generic SAP components such as Electronic Data Interchange and SAP transport management
  • Broad knowledge of architecture, Information Technology security, (technology) platforms and business processes for the specific functional domain and with (comparable) business environments 
  • Solid solution architecture experience with business process modeling and/or infrastructure / application architecture design frameworks (TOGAF), tools, technologies, methodologies
  • Knowledge and practical skills in best practice solutions in the shared solutions space
  • Knowledge of the process industry and relevant application(s) in functional domain
  • Experience with consulting or business roles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical skills over multiple functional domains to identify opportunities and solutions
  • Proactive attitude regarding problem solving using knowledge, experience and analysis of available information
  • Dedicated to reach and maintain high quality standards
  • Ability to influence internal and external parties
  • Able to communicate clearly through a variety of media
  • Must be fluent in English

  • This position will be based at AkzoNobel's North America Corporate Headquarters located at 535 Marriott Drive, Suite 500 in Nashville, Tennessee  37214.
