Job Purpose

To supervise all production processes and personnel while working with the QC group to ensure that products produced meet standards and production goals are met Responsible for managing the day-to-day aspects of running a shift as well as being a front-line resource for both information and action regarding the day-to-day items which affect our daily performance. Actively monitors and drives efficiency improvements within the Production.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for taking an active improvement role on a day-to-day basis, including:
  • Ensuring that the daily production data is collected accurately on all machines.
  • Understanding what the top reasons for lost time, lost output, and poor quality are and taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Providing information to the Daily production meeting regarding the top reasons, their cause and what can/has been done to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Taking specific preventative action, ensuring that permanent fixes are put in place for these top reasons.
  • Handing over of all the above information to the following shift supervisor via a shift hand over meeting.
  • Manage the shift on a day-to-day basis to ensure the following issues are planned:
  • Address absenteeism, including vacation planning, by scheduling manpower as needed following collective bargaining agreement.
  • Batch Paperwork
  • Liaising with QA sharing appropriate information to ensure department goals are met.
  • Train, motivate, and supervise production operators who produce mixes, extrudate, and prepare finished milled products to ensure finished goods meet product specifications, and that proper records are maintained.
  • Attend and participate in Powder Plant Programs/Committees/Training as required, such as Department Safety, Plant Safety, Behavioral Safety, Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, ALPS, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs. 
  • Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required for the success of Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work with 3-5 years’ experience in production/manufacturing/quality experience
  • Knowledge of quality assurance lab activities and procedures, technical knowledge of coatings
  • Supervisor skills 3+ years
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, SharePoint, and SAP
  • Customer focus, detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment 
  • Fluent in English
