The Senior Legal Counsel will advise our different businesses on a wide range of commercial and corporate matters, balancing the need to help our businesses achieve their goals while minimizing legal risk.  The position will serve as a focal point for antitrust advice and commercial agreements relating to the disclosure and licensing of intellectual property.  

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide legal services to various businesses with respect to wide-ranging commercial legal matters.   
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements for specific business units and IP related agreements such as licenses and non-disclosure agreements for all AkzoNobel businesses.
  • Train and advise businesses on antitrust issues and serve as the North American focal point on antitrust advice
  • Educate and train business colleagues on various legal matters.
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues in other jurisdictions as well as those who are experts in Mergers & Acquisitions, Antitrust, Environmental and Employment law
  • Manage Outside Counsel


  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school with admission to at least one state bar and eligible for admission as an in-house lawyer in Tennessee.  
  • 5-8 years of relevant working experience at a major law firm or a multi-national corporation.
  • Extensive knowledge of contract and sales law and extensive experience with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements.
  • Strong working knowledge of US antitrust law with basic knowledge of law in Canada and Mexico 
  • Top-level analytical, counseling, negotiating, communication and interpersonal skills with sound legal, ethical and commercial judgment.
  • The ability to work as a team member across the region and the world
  • Identifies legal and compliance risks, defines mitigating actions, plans and executes actions. Generates constructive actions to improve process effectiveness.
  • Intermediate level of project management skills.
