Job Purpose

The ELM team is a leader in liability management with a focus on reducing environmental risk, delivering innovative solutions to complex liabilities and optimizing the value of divested legacy properties.  The ELM department oversees all significant soil and groundwater liabilities, including the selection and engagement of environmental consultants.  ELM also manages impacted soil and groundwater matters at active manufacturing sites and divested properties, and provides support with merger & acquisition (M&A) projects.


Purpose/Key Objectives

•    Assess and manage environmental risk and liability within the Americas region.  Track emerging contaminants, regulatory trends and assist in the development of technical competencies within the ELM team.
•    Manage impaired sites & environmental liabilities associated with owned or 3rd party sites by fulfilling obligations, minimizing costs and reducing risks.
•    Facilitate environmental due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures by providing advice and recommendations to ELM, Corporate and Business Units.
•    Negotiate with regulators and other stakeholders by creating cost-effective solutions which reduce future environmental risks.
•    Interact with a variety of disciplines, including: legal; real estate; finance; engineering; health, safety & environment; procurement; and, communications.
•    Assess contaminated property risks using a multi-disciplinary approach to resolve complex issues and facilitate effective exit strategies.



•    Senior functional expert (strategic, tactical and environmental specialist) providing direction to ELM, Corporate and Business Units.
•    Provide technical expertise in the development and implementation of investigation and remediation strategies with a focus on cost-effective and practical solutions.
•    Negotiate with regulators and other stakeholders to deliver cost effective solutions for environmental liabilities.
•    Manage investigation and cleanup actions in any of the following programs (or equivalent): Superfund (CERCLA), Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), Brownfields and/or Underground Storage Tank Cleanup.
•    Provide environmental management services such as due diligence, compliance, corrective action, and environmental management systems.
•    Develop, negotiate and maintain project bids, contracts, budgets and schedules.
•    Ability to work with, mentor, direct and motivate engineers and scientists.


Job Requirements

•    B.S. and an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) from an accredited college or university in Geological, Environmental or Civil Engineering, or Geology.
•    15+ years of relevant experience in managing large environmental investigation and remediation projects from strategy development to implementation to closure.
•    Professional registration (Professional Engineer / Professional Geologist), or ability to obtain registration within one (1) year of hire.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills, with involvement in preparing the following: Preliminary Assessment, Remedial Investigation, Feasibility Study, Remedial Design, Remedial Action, Risk Assessment, Brownfield Cleanup and Decision Documents.
•    Ability to interact and influence peers, management, regulatory agencies, field personnel, technical staff, consultants and contractors.
•    Maintain 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) or 8-hour Refresher certification.
•    Must have the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
•    Travel requirements less than 20%.
