Job Purpose

The Regional Category Manager is responsible for leading the company’s regional sourcing activities for the areas of Real Estate, Facilities Services, and Enterprise Services (IM, Consulting, Insurances, Legal, Tax and Finance). They do so with the goal of achieving significant cost reductions, while maintaining/improving product quality and vendor service levels.  Facilitates sourcing process for >50M€ in annual spend across all North American sites.
The role is collaborating heavily with key business stakeholders and sourcing support specialists to deliver significant return on sales (ROS), which is the most critical financial indicator linked to the mid-term success of the company.  In this role you will assume responsibility for all entities/countries in Paints and Coatings in that specific Indirect (NPR) spend category. Proactively drives Cost & Margin improvement, process improvements (TCO) and innovation. Responsible for managing the supply base and stakeholder network on a global/regional level and work closely together with the relevant stakeholders within the Marketing and Sales function, Engineering, BA’s/BU’s/SMU’s and Sourcing. Actively drive cost down programs beyond procurement savings to the stakeholders e.g. demand reduction, change of specifications, value engineering and behavior changes.    
The Regional Category Manager role requires an individual with a strong background in Procurement category management, excellent people management and communication skills, as well the ability to deliver significant sustainable business results and drive cultural change.

Key Accountabilities


  • Manage strategy implementation and contract compliance; 
  • Establishes and leads cross-functional teams for the development and execution of all aspects of category strategies within region.
  • Establishes and presents business cases supporting sourcing recommendations
  • Responsible for managing the competitive sourcing process related to contract pricing, terms and conditions 
  • Conduct strategic sourcing activities to find and develop new suppliers in the Americas region to drive cost reduction, to evaluate production processes as well as analyze supply chain optimization potentials


  • Analyzes and drives Key Performance Measurements for assigned categories;
  • Navigates and analyzes complex data to identify and present opportunities;
  • Actively seeks and leads regional opportunities to drive savings and deliver business results for the organization through various forms of leveraging, bidding, sourcing and/or negotiation;
  • Lead supplier selection process across multiple categories, internal teams, and regions, and create longer-term supplier selection strategies for management
  • Establishes and presents business cases supporting sourcing recommendations
  • Develop mechanisms and metrics to track supplier performance with delivery, quality, and cost


  • Develops, negotiates, and implements complex regional supplier contracts;
  • Manages and leads strategic supplier relationships and performance improvements through regular supplier meetings, business reviews and Executive meetings;
  • Form strong relationships and build trust with key stakeholders in businesses to understand business needs and to establish and strengthen regional category strategies


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;  MBA or equivalent work experience desired;
  • At least 7 years in an international purchasing or commercial role; 
  • Procurement accreditations (e.g. CPM/APICS) desirable;
  • Strong leader who can drive category strategies, develop pricing models, and has influence across all levels of an organization;
  • Good category expertise and sourcing/procurement experience and proven track record in Supplier and Contract Management
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean Six Sigma is a plus;
  • Project management and change management experience;
  • Excellent communicator with different management layers in different functions (Operations, Procurement) and in different parts of the company;
