Job Purpose
To implement strategies and plans to achieve budgeted revenue and place the Marine & Protective (MPY) Business on a sustainable growth trajectory. The role focuses on strengthening the company’s position in existing segments while aggressively identifying, targeting, and commercializing new business opportunities, with a strong emphasis on expanding sales across the AkzoNobel product portfolio.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure full compliance with company ethics, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Product Stewardship (PS) policies, and the Code of Conduct (CoC) for self and team members
- Promote and embed HSE, ethics, and best practices within the team
- Manage and grow the Marine & Protective business across B2B and B2C segments within the assigned region
- Achieve sales revenue targets from identified and strategic market segments
- Improve management of debtors, outstanding/aging, and finished goods inventory to meet Operating Working Capital (OWC) targets
- Provide techno-commercial support to customers to ensure delivery of business objectives and actively contribute to new business development
- Deliver high service levels at key accounts, including trouble-free application, smooth operations, timely supply, and technical assistance
- Coordinate customer training programs and support new product development in collaboration with R&D, HSE, and Business Development teams
- Prepare and manage a five-month rolling sales forecast for the protective coatings segment on a monthly basis
- Coordinate with materials, planning, production, and distribution teams to ensure timely manufacturing and delivery of orders
- Set challenging targets with clear accountability for team members to achieve business objectives
- Develop and enhance techno-commercial capabilities of the team through structured coaching and regular feedback
- Establish a formal career development framework with objective skill-level metrics
- Drive continuous capability enhancement and performance improvement initiatives
- Encourage and reinforce best practices, including ethics, HSE, and company values
- Seek R&D support for line servicing and product development requirements
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved guidelines
- Adjust delivery schedules based on changing customer requirements
- Approve market visit plans for team members
- Recommend and prioritize production planning in line with business needs
Experience
- 5–7 years of experience in Sales, preferably in corporate or institutional sales.
- Prior exposure to Marine & Protective Coatings or related industrial segments is preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration (BBA/MBA) or
- Master’s degree in Chemistry (MSc – Chemistry).
