Job Purpose

The Process Engineer is responsible for driving process excellence and operational reliability across the site by focusing on addressing customer complaints, leading the investigation and resolution of issues through root cause analysis and the implementation of robust process controls to prevent recurrence. This role also leads the planning, execution, and validation of automation and capital projects from concept through commissioning, enhancing manufacturing efficiency, scalability, and safety. The Process Engineer maintains and improves SAP master data, including BOMs, product formulas, and batch instructions, ensuring accurate and efficient production processes. This role identifies and implements process improvements in filling operations to optimize consistency, reduce defects, and improve overall operational performance. The Process Engineer collaborates closely with RDI, Quality, HSE, Maintenance, and Production teams. This role supports and mentors operators while leading cross-functional initiatives to sustain operational improvements and a culture of continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into customer complaints, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to ensure long-term product and process reliability.
  • Plan, manage, and execute automation and capital projects from concept through commissioning to optimiz manufacturing efficiency, capacity, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain, update, and improve SAP master data, including BOMs, product formulas, and batch instructions, to ensure accurate and reliable production operations.
  • Analyze filling operations to identify inefficiencies, develop process improvements, and implement solutions to enhance batch consistency, reduce defects, and improve throughput.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, batch records, and process flow diagrams to support compliance and operator training.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including RDI, Quality, Operations, HS&E, and Maintenance to ensure process improvements meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor key process metrics and production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives using ALPS, Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured problem-solving tools to drive operational excellence.
  • Mentor and coach operators and team members to sustain improvements, reinforce best practices, and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the production personnel to build process knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Support the scale-up of new products from development through full-scale production, ensuring robust process transfer and documentation

Level of Autonomy

  • Works independently to investigate and resolve customer complaints, making data-driven decisions and implementing corrective actions with minimal supervision.
  • Leads automation and capital projects from planning through execution, taking ownership of project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Manages SAP master data and process documentation autonomously, ensuring accuracy and compliance without requiring constant oversight.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements in filling operations and implements solutions proactively, collaborating with stakeholders as needed.
  • Exercises judgment in recommending operational changes, influencing cross-functional teams, and driving initiatives that improve efficiency, quality, and safety.

Job Requirements

  • BS in Engineering: Mechanical, Chemical or Process required
  • 3-5 years of experience in Process Engineering, continuous improvement, or related technical roles with demonstrated success in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with SAP master data management, including BOMs, product formulas, and batch instructions
  • 2-3 years of experience in the Coatings industry preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and experience supporting compliance initiatives
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence operational improvements.
  • Six Sigma and Lean experience
