Job Purpose
The Solutions Manager will support the goals of the Research and Development department for the Wood Coatings business unit by ensuring that critical product formulations are maintained, tested, and implemented properly in manufacturing and application. Will develop and implement an operation plan and performance goals for the Research and Development team in High Point, North Carolina. Will manage timelines and deliverables with multiple stakeholders from different functions, escalating issues as needed to leadership.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure preparation, testing, developing, analyzing and research of elements used for formula modifications, resolution of quality issues, manufacturing modifications, and customer support.
- Lead team in the execution and delivery of assigned work requests in accordance with business needs and agreed plans.
- Manage and plan relevant budget, proactively managing costs.
- Build and manage relationship with functional stakeholders within Research and Development, Commercial Sales, Technical Service, Marketing, and Supply Chain.
- Attract, lead, coach, and develop team members.
- Demonstrate and promote safety within the workplace.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Science. Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
- 8 years' experience in the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing including product formulation.
- 3 years' experience in team leadership and talent management.
- Extensive knowledge of key Research and Development processes. Six Sigma experience preferred.
- Familiar with continuous improvement methodologies including root cause analysis, methodologies for the statistical design of experiment (DOE), and project management skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills, particularly in structured methodologies (e.g., Design for Six Sigma, Kepner-Tregoe), with the ability to train team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel up to 15% as needed.
Total Compensation
The salary range for these skills is $105,000 - $125,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
