Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to supervise and manage all manufacturing (production, shipping/receiving) operations of the Manufacturing factory.
The production manager is responsible for managing the manufacturing processes of the plant. This will be achieved by supporting the overall operations effort to create a culture of functional and operational excellence while delivering leading product to our leading markets. 

Key Responsibilities

•  Lead, participate and contribute in all Health & Safety, Security and Environmental activities (SAFE meetings, BBS observer, HS&E training, Near Miss & AIRI reporting, Auditing, Housekeeping, 5S, Recycling, Waste Management, etc.).
•  Manage and supervise manufacturing operations and factory operators.
This includes (but not limited to):
•    Manager the daily manufacturing activities in a manner that maximizes safety, quality and productivity.
•    Manage all activities associated with establishing production schedules and ensure that actual production meets scheduled requirements.
•    Assign daily tasks and activities to shift leaders.
•    Ensure that all safety and work practices are followed, and that risk and waste are minimized.
•    Ensure DOT Closure requirements are met.
•    Monitor and analyze all stages of all manufacturing processes to prevent or correct errors.
•    Evaluate employee's job performance and conduct job performance reviews.  Conduct coaching and discipline sessions with employees when appropriate.
•    Ensure all manufacturing employees receive relevant training to operate equipment, related to their assignments, in a safely manner.
•    Coordinate production operations with the requirements for finished products and the needs for materials and labor.
•    Optimize & streamline manufacturing processes, including the optimization of batch sizes.
•    Manage & coordinate the Rework Process of Finish Goods and Obsolete Raw Materials.
•    Ensure operating procedures are updated periodically.
•    Ensure housekeeping of plant and regulatory requirements are met.
•    Manage production of plant.
•    Support operations to create a culture of functional excellence, accountability, professionalism and commitment to company values and standards.
•    Plan, lead, organize and control the delivery of the operations contribution to site objectives and overall performance in terms of HSE&S, service and quality, costs and personnel. 
•    Establish processes to understand, look for and respond effectively to hazards in safety, health, security and environment, taking account of people, plant, community and procedures.
•    Develop individual team members and build a team which collectively is capable of and fully involved in achieving the task. Enforce personal performance standards within team. 
•    As a member of operations management team, contribute to the formulation of site objectives from an operations perspective and ensure operations capabilities, constraints and HSE considerations are incorporated into overall production planning. 

Key Activities

•    Lead an operational excellence agenda by coaching and teaching functional excellence in all areas while achieving sustainable improvement in safety, reliability, productivity, quality and eco-efficiency of the production plant and operations
•    Establish performance standards for production and lead continuous improvement 
•    Implement production management systems and processes
•    Develop and manage team 
•    Design, install and safely maintain assets
•    Produce and effectively use materials, equipment and personnel 
•    Network with other production managers at other sites within AkzoNobel to develop knowledge, experience and leverage best practices 
•    Develop departmental budget and control costs to meet budget
•    Responsible for monitoring direct and indirect operating costs, variable operating costs (yields and efficiencies), capital investments and related non capital expenditures
•    Analyze plant operations, plan and develop improvement programs to ensure safe operations, increase rates, improve yields, upgrade quality and ensure reliability of assets and team members to meet or exceed production goals
•    Mentors, challenges, and develops personnel with emphasis on change management, cross training employees and driving employee ownership of company results
•    Provide direction to supervision on multiple shifts to ensure compliance with existing program and continuous improvement 
•    Establish and communicate housekeeping standards for the production department, complying with established corporate safety initiatives and maintaining a safe work environment 
•    Establish production personnel targets according to standard operating procedures and future demands 
•    Perform other key activities as required 

Job Requirements

Essential Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field from four-year college or university
•    6+ years of paint manufacturing or liquid batch manufacturing experience 
•    5+ years of previous supervisory/management experience 
•    Effective leadership, interpersonal skills, performance management, and people development skills required 
•    Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with clear prioritization and organizational skills 
•    Effective communicator with all levels of the organization (employees, managers, customers)
•    Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, ERP systems, etc.)

Compensation/Rewards/Benefits

The salary range for these skills is:  $94,500 - $135.000.  This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.  This salary range may also be modified in the future.
