1. Purpose of the job

Purpose of this role is twofold:

  1. This role is responsible for leading, designing and developing AkzoNobel’s I&C Program covering anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, commercial third party risk management, data privacy and competition laws for all businesses and functions in the SESA region. This role is also responsible for partnering with the SESA legal team and SESA leaders to implement the program in their business and functional teams, in order to ensure that AkzoNobel and its business partners own and adhere to AkzoNobel’s core principles, behaviors and expectations in the region. 2
  2. . This role is responsible for the design and implementation of AkzoNobel’s global I&C global communications program and lead the key communications campaigns

 

2.Key responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include:

Region South Asia and ASEAN:
- Conduct I&C risk assessments, identify I&C risks (whether driven by regulatory requirements or business risks) and design adequate risk remediation plans;

- Design and lead delivery of I&C strategic plan for the region, focusing on anti-bribery anti-corruption, data privacy and competition law;

 - Further develop the regional and local governance model with strong shared ownership and accountability for I&C within regional and local organizations;

-Will be the focal point of contact for I&C Matters ibn the SESA Region

- Review, analyse, assist and support business units in SESA Region in their loyalty incentive programmes in accordance with AkzoNobel’s policies and procedures

- Act as the point of contact for all Competition Law related matters in the Region

- Build a strong partnership with leaders at regional and country level and persuade them to set tone at the top and own the risk remediation through effective implementation of the I&C program, policies and controls in the region

- Develop, revise and implement global policies, rules and procedures and lead regional tailoring and implementation in global anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, third party management, data privacy and competition laws; develop and issue new practical guidance, toolkits and templates, supported with targeted and impactful change management activities and communication campaigns to drive behavior change of employees;

- Provide counseling on the above areas of expertise to SESA leaders and teams;
- Develop, deliver and oversee training;
- Ensured tailored communication; provided regular updates to SESA Leadership;
- Given the complexity, fragmentation and rapidly evolving nature of the regulatory framework in SESA, advise SESA Leadership on innovative, complex and strategic matters and provide counseling on day-to-day basis to business and functional teams;

  • Drive implementation of Third-Party Program in SESA and for global business partners;
  • Conduct due diligence and develop and implement SESA Integrity & Compliance Integration Programs for newly acquired companies;
    - Exceptionally conduct investigations where local law knowledge or language requires.

Global I&C Communications program:

  • Lead, design and implement AkzoNobel’s global I&C communication program, incl the communication strategy, plan, and objectives, working closely together with the global Communications team;
  • Create and design content for global I&C communications; explore and create fun, innovative and creative methods of communication to enhance a compliance-minded culture, directing and overseeing the contributions by the global I&C team as well as the broader legal team.

 

  1. Level of autonomy

Job holder should have extensive experience and expertise with I&C in the entire SESA region in all abovementioned areas and take decisions independently. The job holder should understand the complexity of an emerging region like SESA, with a fragmented and rapidly evolving regulatory framework. Given this is a regional role, this role will have to partner with an extensive group of leaders and teams and handle very diverse issues in different business models and cultures. Check with supervisor/senior leadership before finalizing key strategic decisions requiring substantial alignment with and/or time from cross-functional and regional stakeholders and/or with substantial budget impact.

 

  1. Job requirements

Candidates should have the following:  Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Legal.  Minimum 10 years of demonstrated leadership experience with Integrity & Compliance Business Partnership.  Experience working for an international business.

 

CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE:

 

  • Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct;
  • Familiarity with the global framework affecting an international business, and good working knowledge of global laws and regulations relating to Integrity & Compliance risks including bribery, corruption, fraud, third party liabilities, antitrust and competition issues and data privacy;
  • Excellent business accumen;
  • Ability to thing strategically, anticipate to issues and find solutions; ability to combine holistic view and strong analytical skills, set goals, and unite people to drive results;
  • Analyze and translate laws, regulations and policies into efficient business processes that incorporate global differences without sacrificing clear and concise instruction;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Excellent oral communication and inter-personal skills to inspire and influence employees at every level to embrace AkzoNobel’s Integrity and Compliance initiatives;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness operating in complex organizational environments and self-starter qualities that will translate well in a large matrixed organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision in a team and matrix environment; sound judgment;
  • Leadership abilities, with the desire, aptitude and sensitivity to involve multi-functional business leaders in Integrity & Compliance matters;
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively with others in addressing complex issues;
  • Extensive experience managing change and implementing operational excellence; and
  • English native speaker; additional language capabilities are strongly preferred.
