Senior Passive Fire Protection Field Auditor & Coach
Felling, Newcastle (Office based with overseas travel)
 Competitive salary plus benefits

We welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience and transferable skills, even if you don’t meet every requirement listed below. If this role excites you, we’d love to hear from you.

At AkzoNobel, we’ve been bringing surfaces to life for over 200 years — protecting people, assets, and the environments we live and work in. Our Passive Fire Protection (PFP) solutions play a vital role in safety-critical industries, and we’re committed to building diverse teams that reflect the customers and communities we serve.

Job Purpose
As a Senior PFP Field Auditor & Coach, you will play a highly influential role in developing people, improving application quality, and strengthening safety culture across our Passive Fire Protection projects. Through mentoring, training, and constructive auditing, you will help teams succeed — ensuring PFP systems are applied safely, consistently, and to the highest standards.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, combining technical expertise with coaching, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
•    Coach, mentor, and support PFP applicators and inspectors, helping individuals and teams build confidence and capability
•    Deliver training and auditing activities in a supportive, constructive way that encourages learning and continuous improvement
•    Help develop Chartek expert-status applicators and inspectors through mentoring and recognised qualification programmes
•    Work closely with project teams to support the selection of capable, well-trained PFP application partners
•    Proactively identify potential project risks and collaborate with stakeholders to develop practical mitigation plans
•    Support maintenance and life-extension solutions for ageing assets, contributing to safer, more sustainable infrastructure
•    Participate in site reviews and failure investigations, ensuring lessons learned are shared and embedded
•    Promote an inclusive, safety-first culture with an open, no-blame approach
•    Contribute ideas that improve processes, standards, and ways of working across the PFP community

What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to tick every box — we value capability, mindset, and willingness to grow as much as experience.
•    Strong background in coatings application and/or Passive Fire Protection systems
•    Experience in asset integrity, fabric maintenance, or related industrial environments
•    Comfortable working across both new-build and maintenance projects
•    Confident communicator who enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds
•    Organised, self-motivated, and able to manage priorities effectively
•    Committed to safety, quality, and doing the right thing

Qualifications & Professional Development
•    Working toward AMPP Certified Senior Coating Inspector (Level 3) or equivalent experience
•    Commitment to continuous professional development
•    Membership (or interest in membership) of a recognised professional body such as AMPP, NACE, or ICorr

What Makes This Role Different
•    A strong coaching and mentoring focus, not just auditing
•    The opportunity to influence standards and safety at a global level
•    A role where collaboration, trust, and communication matter as much as technical expertise
•    Support to grow professionally within a global, values-driven organisation

What We Offer at AkzoNobel
•    Competitive salary and benefits package
•    Pension scheme, life assurance, and income protection
•    Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support
•    Flexible benefits to suit different lifestyles and life stages
•    A culture that actively supports work-life balance, inclusion, and wellbeing
•    Ongoing learning, development, and career progression opportunities

At AkzoNobel, we believe diverse teams make better decisions and stronger innovations. If you’re passionate about safety, learning, and making a real difference, we encourage you to apply — even if you’re unsure you meet every requirement.
