Job Purpose

 

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining machinery used in the production of liquid coatings. This role involves setting up machines, monitoring operations, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring quality control to meet Akzo Nobel production standards. The operator will work closely with the production team to ensure efficient and safe manufacturing processes as per Akzo Nobel HSE standards.
 

Key Responsibilities


Machine Operation:

  • Set up, operate, and adjust dispersing & blending machines ,  according to production specifications and schedules.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure quality and efficiency, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Operating industrial color tinting machine for water based & solvent based paint


Quality Control:

  • Inspect raw materials and finished products for conformance to quality standards.
  • Perform regular quality checks during the production process.
  • Apply sample panels to check the color


Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical issues, report major problems to maintenance personnel & Production Supervisor.


Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all Akzo Nobel safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow Akzo Nobel Life Saving Rules & Golden Principle
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated.
  • Maintain Housekeeping standards & participate in 5S Audits.


Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for production batches and machine maintenance logs.
  • Maintain tinting schedule and sample color panel filing.


Collaboration:

  • Work closely with team members and supervisors to meet production goals.
  • Communicate effectively with maintenance and quality control departments.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production processes.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improving efficiency and product quality.
     

Experience

 

  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar Liquid Paint Manufacturing industry.
  • Basic command of spoken and written English.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions given on batch cards & Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and its operational settings e.g. HSD’s Blenders, Bead Mills, material handling equipment.  Knowledge & License of forklift operation will be an added advantage. 
  • Basic knowledge of safety rules and measures in a production environment.
  • Basic knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control.
