Compensation Data

  • $70K to $85K annually
  • 35% annual Sales Force incentive bonus based on individual and  company performance 
  • Car Allowance of $800 monthly, plus mileage reimbursement.

Job Purpose

To be the frontline sales person who is responsible for the execution of agreed sales and profitability targets in a set territory established by the business by developing new business and expanding the business with existing customers all while providing technical support per business needs inside and outside of the defined sales territory. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Execute the duties of a full-time technical sales representative assigned to a sales territory.
  • Develop relevant commercial pipeline for respective accounts, manage the pipeline within the CRM.
  • Deliver the agreed financial and non financial targets in line with business budgets.
  • Provide technical and after sales support, perform basic technical inspections (sometimes within confined spaces) and audits at designated customer sites.  
  • Deliver training to customers on the use and application of the company products.
  • Establish and maintains top level contact with the AkzoNobel management team as well as the management of existing and potential customers.
  • Manage complex customer complaints and insure appropriate action on customer service problems.
  • Attend seminars and trade shows as determined by Sales Manager and Marketing Manager and, on occasion, travel with customer to view new technologies.
  • Dedicated and committed safety leadership and presence to ensure AkzoNobel and local health and safety protocols are maintained including wearing all required personal protective equipment at customer’s site.

Level of autonomy (decision making and independent judgement)

  • Capable of indetifying strategic clients/projects/owners and motivating business to support clients. 
  • Set own travel schedule, determine best timing of sales calls per account. 
  • Develop presentations for conferences and meetings. 
  • Coordinate and recommend pricing. 
  • Develop coating specifications, reports and surveys. 
  • All the above within the bounds of the functional and operational guidelines of the business.


  • Experience:  2 years in the coating industry, preferrably heavy industrial or marine related.  Previous experience in sales, customer service or marketing function.
  • Education:  Bachelor's Degree and NACE CIP 1 or NACE CIP 2 preferred - all may apply.
  • Basic computer skills:  Excel, Word, email, sending reports, ability to navigate various user friendly web-based programs, etc.
  • Must be able lift 50 lbs and to stand or walk for long periods of time.  
  • Ability to travel over 30% of time withing Canada and the USA and work a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
