Job Purpose

 

  • Performs technical service to customers, shipyards. Liaises among parties to insure everybody aware and agreed on technical requirements; contributes to quality control by monitoring and advising all stakeholders. 30%
  • Supports marine accounts, sales and customers by answering technical questions and solving problems, keeps Company safe by ensuring preventive measures to avoid complaints. 20%
  • Aligns and cooperates with Sales&Marketing, COS, RD&I. 20%
  • Coordinates daily routine of local TS team. 15%
  • As focal point of technical expertise, maintains and updates knowledge on products, and applications methods including for Class0 products (Intersleek, Interline). 10%
  • Advises customers and their contractors on HSE aspects related to transportation, handling, storage and use of paint products. Delivers training to customers on the use and application of the paint products. 5%

Key Accountabilities

 

Perform technical service by:

  • Represent the Company during DD and NB projects; protect the interests of the Company and provide advice to Customer in the allocated area.
  • Communicate to customer and provide him with Technical Service Charter, business card, proposed paint specification and TSPQ, ask customer feedback on personal performance and local TS team performance.
  • Check technical suitability of any proposed revision to the agreed paint specification, agree it in writing with the customer.
  • Check and confirm availability of any product required as the result of a revised paint specification.
  • Obtain approval of the Account Executive for any revised paint specification.
  • Produce a final paint specification which should be submitted to the customer.
  • Arrange paint deliveries, check paint on delivery to the shipyard and record all batch numbers, advise the shipyard on suitable paint storage conditions where appropriate.
  • Participate in technical inspections (fouling, paint condition, surface preparation and paint application) together with customers, shipyard’s and their subcontractor’s QC personnel.
  • Monitor and record environmental conditions.
  • Ensure that paint mixing and thinning (when required) are properly carried out.
  • Present at the initial paint application to set/agree the standard.
  • Measure wet and dry film thicknesses or arrange volume/area control as and when appropriate.
  • Ensure that maximum and minimum overcoating intervals and time to dock flooding are adhered to.
  • Contribute to quality control by monitoring/observing and advising all stakeholders.
  • Arrange and/or participate in project meetings for DD and NB projects, where and when required to discuss/resolve/agree an issues relating to inspection and application procedures, special requirements for the coating systems, meeting and reporting schedules, sub-standard work procedures.
  • Report on progress on a continuous base; insure timely and regular reporting during project by maintain a site diary for NB projects and a Project Logbook for M&R projects.

Support and facilitate sales by:

  • Communicate and provide information to the Sales Account Managers and TSM on the competitors’ products and systems by monitoring and regular reporting for local market (Market Activity).
  • Cooperate with Salaes Account Managers on technical projects and activities, arrange offshore inspections/UW cleanings on demand of Sales Executives or vessel owner.
  • Arrange application of test patches; arrange and/or conduct OBM inspections; arrange and conduct technical training to customer/SY personnel.
  • Support implementation of SMU solutions within the area of services.
  • Coordinate and monitor implementation of new products / technologies, color, services and processes within sales.
  • Collect, filter and prioritize product-related issues and needs occurring in the area with feedback of complaints handling.

 

Support and facilitate other important tasks by:

  • Participate in assessing of the level of technical skills of the Marine TSR’s and makes proposals to the action plan to address development.
  • Communicate updated technical data to appropriate channels.
  • Work together with Technical Representatives on product analysis.
  • Ensure local technical team comply with Akzo Nobel HSE/SAFE procedure and practices. 
  • Get familiar with all the applicable corporate as well as site policies/procedures with regard to personal conduct/HSE standards and acts in compliance with all their regulations.
  • Ensure reporting line is fully informed and acts in line with HSE and Compliance regulations.
  • Create an open environment in the team where all people can perform at their best and stimulates the development of others.
  • Regularly monitor and communicate to the Marine TSR’s the latest news regarding technical bulletins and developments, including standards and best practices.
  • Support Marine TSR’s in complaint handling and training and acts as second line support in complex complaints.
  • Manage the flexibility of the local team according to the workload.
  • Facilitate local specific (visa, gate pass, etc.).
  • Manage demonstrations of paint / non-paint and transfers the knowledge on processes as well as on technical problem solving to the customers.
  • Insure that assigned and shared inspection and PPE equipment is in good working order and where appropriate are within calibration.
  • Arrange calibration of inspection and PPE equipment.

Experience

 

  • A bachelor’s degree is required along with NACE II or FROSIO III Paint inspector qualification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a TSR or similar position, min 10 years in painting industry (ship building, ship repair). For internal candidate Technical service training Modular program has to be completed.Ability to act as a local authority on all technical issues and takes the lead on resolving them effectively. 
  • Sound knowledge on paint products, application technologies, coating international standards and coating certification.
  • Local driving license of residence country
  • Management experience with small team of junior and senior levels. 
  • Good English language skills
  • Good written reporting skills (qualitative and quantitative skills)
  • Customer focused communication skills 
  • Independent and self-starter in planning and managing work schedules with a high level of personal and professional integrity with limited need of direct management support
