Summary of Duties:
- Oversee development of new products, or review of existing products, including scale up and customer trials.
- Complete benchwork alongside team members.
- Create workplans and review results with junior level team members.
- Plan quarterly to yearly timescale with regular stakeholder reviews.
- Train or transmit technical knowledge within local, regional, or global team.
- Write and supervise execution of DOEs (Design of Experiments), including data analysis and interpretation.
- Understand customer requirements and translate into technical parameters and testing.
- Act as technical expert for communication with internal and external stakeholders, such as internal technical reports and customer presentations. Effective interaction with production sites to implement new products or make processing improvements.
- Responsible for project scope, process, and timeline to develop new coil and extrusion coatings products.
- Design of experiment for product development, including managing resources and tasks, analyzing results, management of change communications and raw material introductions [which includes analysis of the material being introduced and submission of Safety Data Sheets, Technical Data Sheets, and TRAQ form to PSRA (Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs)].
- Design quality testing for new products. Responsible for continuous improvement projects around processes, including measuring and analyzing current process to identify opportunities for improvement; developing improved processes to realize efficiencies and cost savings; and documenting and training personnel through MOC (Management of Change) process.
- Research equipment capabilities and cost related to equipment implementation, including processes for startup, shutdown, calibration, and use as well as documenting and training personnel through MOC process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or related field of study
- 4 years of experience in chemistry or coatings industry.
- Applicants must have demonstrated experience with the following:
- hands-on experience with chemistry, polymers, and formulation in coatings;
- StageGate and DOE process;
- surfactants as additives for paint formulations and polymer applications;
- chemical experimentations and sampling;
- chemical sample analyses;
- product development and experimental design methods; and
- tools and instruments used in an R&D lab.
