Key Responsibilities

The Lab Technician II is a highly motivated person with a problem solving and customer-oriented mindset that performs lab work necessary to help maintain product lines and support business growth. The perform each essential duty safely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner. 

•    Understand and follow a batch ticket (recipe) with high degree of accuracy for weights and measurements.
•    Learns how to use all the testing equipment in the lab.  
•    Performs the proper test on raw materials, in process and finished goods to verify they meet the required specification (as applicable).     
•    Documentation of testing results in SAP/Access databases.  
•    Coordinates the finished goods sample retains are collected and stored properly.  
•    Creation of certificates of analysis which are provided to customers.  
•    Maintains quality records in a centralized filing system.  
•    Appropriately maintains testing standards.  
•    Follow daily work plan for Lab Work Request or project plan
•    Recognize roadblocks or anomalies; resolve them or communicate concerns with a chemist in a timely manner
•    Coordinate/maintain a well-stocked laboratory by taking inventory and monitoring raw material and product consumption (Kanban).
•    Coordinate the high right first time failures analysis studies to help purpose the changes needed to make the product right first time.  
•    Responsible for proper collection of hazardous waste; proper marking, labelling, and closure of hazardous waste containers.
•    Correctly label and mail samples
•    Participation in the Management of Change (MOC), Incident Investigation, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR) and other safety related committees and teams. 

Job Requirements

•    Associates Degree or Technical Certification, preferred
•    3 + years work experience in chemistry or coatings industry, preferred
•    Excellent verbal and written communication

•    Conform with all site and laboratory safety requirements and policies, including participation in AkzoNobel safety programs including audits, safety meetings, and demonstrating safe practices and behaviours    
•    Pragmatic, proactive, quick learner, self-motivated
•    Learn and understand customer application methods to replicate customer line conditions
•    Effective interpersonal skills, keeping direct manager and team members informed of progress
•    Maintain excellent relationships within the scope of their work.
•    Ability to calculate figures and amounts including proportions, percentages, fractions and volumes.  
•    Able to work at least at a basic level in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point 
•    Own personal and career development
•    Demonstrate continuous commitment to business goals and initiatives as sole contributor

Rewards & Benefits

Base salary range for this role is: $49,000 to $54,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
