Job Purpose
The role of a Technician III is to support activities in line with department, R&D project & functional standards in one or more of the following areas with direction from their line manager or supervisor:
• Developing new products and technologies
• Developing fundamental understanding of key coating attributes
• Testing/support of existing technologies, products and processes
Key Accountabilities
• Manufacture, testing and support of existing technologies, products and processes e.g. carry out experimental and standard paint manufacture, QA, testing and application.
• Manages the day to day requirements, planning and delivery for assigned support activities as agreed with line manager or supervisor e.g. proposes work programmes for complex tasks assigned by line manager, and plan the work.
• Consistently and effectively communicates progress and issues, both verbally and in summaries / presentations for discussions with line manager or supervisor.
• Uses best practice/past solutions to carry-out, evaluate, interpret experiments and suggest conclusions and next steps (including test methods) from laboratory work programmes for review with manager or supervisor. Documents work using the appropriate reporting systems.
• Participate with factory on batch supervisions and pilot plant manufacture, and make recommendations for corrections if batch is out of specification.
• Conduct, participate and evaluate trials/inspections with or without the need for supervision depending on experience e.g. customer, application, production processes, equipment.
• Ability to have discussions obtain samples/recommendations/literature & provide suggestions for use.
• Understands the importance of IP.
• Identifies improvement needs and generates ideas for improvement activities/projects for discussion with line manager. Could also be a lead in a team.
• Familiar with relevant experimental, development and/or analytical approaches or techniques and provides training and support to team members (where required).
• Maintains a safe working environment eg member of 5S team, supports H&S engagement audits, supporting BBS processes.
Job Requirements
6 BCF Level 3, NACE 1, City & Guilds or equivalent
Typically >3 years experience in industrial laboratory or paint industry
