Job Purpose

 

Drive communications for the Iberia region and Italy to strengthen AkzoNobel’s reputation, brands, and organization:

Promote the company strategy and purpose, champion AkzoNobel’s reputation, engage employees and position us as an industry frontrunner.

Plan and deliver effective communication campaigns for audiences in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Implement global campaigns effectively and act as a local business partner for BU and function leaders in Iberia and Italy.

Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to deliver an effective public affairs agenda, based on specific risks and opportunities.

Manage issues, including crisis/emergencies, in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Be a key member of the EMEA communications team driving the communications strategy and helping the function to meet its business-driven objectives.

Key Accountabilities

 

As Communications Manager:

  • Develop and implement a communications plan for Iberia and Italy aligned to the global communications strategy and supporting businesses in the region.
  • Work seamlessly with the global teams in the function to execute key global communication initiatives in Spain, Portugal and Italy.
  • Act as a communications business partner and trusted advisor to senior leaders, build strong working relationships and execute local communication plans that support key business objectives.
  • Implement communication tactics to inform, educate and engage audiences around AkzoNobel’s purpose, strategy, and behaviors.
  • Positively drive AkzoNobel’s reputation through fully integrated communication tactics aligned with the company strategy.
  • Proactively build and expand strong networks with external stakeholders (journalists, government, NGOs) to positively influence AkzoNobel’s reputation.
  • Identify opportunities and risks that can benefit or harm AkzoNobel’s reputation.
  • In case of crisis in Spain, Portugal or Italy, act as first line of contact for media (when necessary) and monitor and analyze (online and offline) media coverage.
  • Track the outputs and deliverables of all communication activity across the region and measure progress against KPIs.
  • Provide insight and regular feedback as a key member of the EMEA communications team.
  • Coordinate and facilitate crisis training and media training for senior leaders/potential spokespeople.

 

  • Activation of local initiatives to support key business objectives.
  • Setting of KPIs and targets for local or regional communication campaigns.
  • Provision of communication advice to key leaders in the region.

 

Experience

 

  • Excellent communication skills (in Spanish, English, both written and verbal). Good Italian and Portuguese would also be an advantage
  • Hands-on mentality, proactive attitude and focus on problem-solving
  • Global-local mindset and experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Team player with ability to work independently and flexibly
  • Clear track record of execution to drive business results
  • Experience of both traditional and digital communication channels
  • Ability to create editorial content – e.g. press releases, articles, videos, social media posts
