  1. Purpose/Key Objectives of the Job

 

Technical

 

  • To provide solutions to our customers’ needs (internal and external) that are timely, appropriate, and cost effective
    • This includes establishing formulation guidelines and monitoring them, evaluation and implementation of raw materials in a way that assures no problems in production, managing cost reduction initiatives while retaining the desired properties of products, to interact with other technical staff in the company to assure transfer of knowledge, following guidelines given by SMU leadership.
    • This includes also responsibility for the integrity of our technical data (formula, specifications) in our ERP
    • Having proper technical data sheets and MSDS for each product
    • To have the technical knowledge to solve formulation problems, but also the knowledge of processes necessary to provide goods and services to our customer, an understanding of the market as a whole, and the role of RD&I relative to other functional areas in the business
  • To interact with other departments to assure the efficient production of goods and services
    • This includes cooperation with sales to provide customer support
    • This includes cooperation with QC and operations to assure proper setting of specifications to allow efficient production of material while meeting the customers’ requirements.
    • This includes participation in cross functional project teams to address issues related to materials, but also processes and workflow.

 

HSE & Sustainability

 

  • Familiar with all the applicable corporate as well as site and laboratory policies/procedures with regard to personal conduct, HSE and Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) standards and acting in compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Ensuring safe working environment in the Laboratory and compliance to standard 14. Implementation of 5s, BBS which helps the site meeting AN HSE Standards and Directives.
  • Understanding and implementing Akzo Nobel and SMU ‘Product Stewardship Program’ and ensuring 100% compliance to the plan eg. Priority substances program.

 

3. Responsibilities

 

  • Product development for Mid –Tier market
  • New Supplier Development jointly with Purchasing for RM localization & Value creation

 

4. Job Requirements

 

  • Education – Paint Diploma / BSc Degree/BE/BTech
  • Knowledge of Powder Coatings Formulation – 3-4 yrs job experience in the same field
  • Speed and accuracy of Development
  • Innovation skills
  • Shade matching skills
  • Trouble shooting at customer’s end
  • Good interpersonal relationships
  • Qualification and renewal testing for Approved Applicators for Architectural segment/customer
  • RM rationalization and RM SLOB consumption
  • Review & revision of FG specification in SAP
  • Customer orientation for product development & stabilization and complaint resolution coordinating with Sales & Service Team
  • Establishment of correlation factor between lab & production outcomes for RFT improvement
  • Use of BYK Mac I instrument for proper Metallic Shade matching
  • Support to be extended to Gwalior Plant for product scale up & standardization
