Job Purpose

To promote and increase sales of the Akzo Nobel range of Marine & Protective coatings through:

  • Deliver the agreed financial and non-financial targets in line with Marine & Protective Coatings business budgets
  • Drive innovation through a variety of customers which include fabricators, Blast & Paint Yards, Onsite Painting Contractors, Vessel Owners (Including Dry-Docking Contractors)  
  • Liaising with local engineering & architectural houses to promote & specify International Paint’s range of protective and fire protection coating solutions for both new construction and maintenance & repair market segments.
  • Liaising between International Paint, the ship owner’s representative, the shipyard and their contractors during dry-docking / new construction projects;

The position will be based remotely in the Wellington or Tasman Districts. There will be regular travel associated with this position within this Region, Occasional travel to Christchurch and other regions will be required.

Key Accountabilities

Maintain an acute awareness of the marine & protective coatings industry, its new products and trends and analyse customer circumstances and requirements

Develop new and existing customers both in the new construction and maintenance markets.

Identify new projects within the region and issuing specifications for those projects/vessels.

Present to architects, engineers, construction companies, consultants & vessel owners

Manage and facilitate flow of accurate project information among M&PC sales team

Negotiate long-term contracts and seek guidance from the Regional Manager where required

Provide first level after-sales technical service and problem-solving to customers, technical personnel and facility/vessel owners and refer more complex matters to the Regional Manager or Technical Group

Visit customers on-site and negotiate the sale of International Marine & Protective Coatings products

Write Specifications using the in-house specification writing system “Interspec”.

Prepare and maintain MasterSpec specifications in conjunction with HVI Key Account Manager

Keep CRM Gaudi fully updated, with particular reference to High Priority Projects/Vessels, Companies & Opportunities

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial

Strong written and oral communication skills

Proven presentation skills

Computer literacy, including competency in Outlook, Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Desirable

A Degree/Diploma in Science / Engineering or Commerce

Experience or knowledge of the specifying with Architectural/Engineering fields

Experience with the Commercial/Industrial Building Sector

Experience in dealing with contracting companies and technical personnel

ACA / NACE Inspection Certificate, preferably at least Level 1
