Purpose of the job

The Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist promotes a culture of continuous improvement and provides support with the identification of process shortcomings and implementation of the CI portfolio. It implements measurable improvement activities to achieve the targets for set KPIs. The role facilitates CI projects or manages independently small CI project. It provides analytics and monitors the application of best practices.

The CI Specialist is part of the CI team for Monterrey (Powder). It Interacts with colleagues and projects stakeholders to ensure that projects are on track.

Key responsibilities

  • Build organizational capabilities applying continuous improvement tools and methods.
  • Work with teams to identify shortcomings, analyzes information, research best practices, and develop and implement process solutions.
  • Assist the site manager in identification, prioritization, and selection of potential projects to optimize existing processes.
  • Collect and interpret data and provide quantitative and qualitative insights via analysis and reports.
  • Facilitate project activities or autonomously execute improvement projects within a limited scope and a set plan (budget, objectives, and roles) – coordinate, monitor, and drive project activities, manage project risks, changes, and resources, and take corrective actions. Guide and manage expectations of project stakeholders. Hand over projects and evaluate projects results.
  • Monitor and ensure continuous application of integrated solutions. Support operational processes, techniques, and systems.
  • Coach/mentor employees at all levels in the organization about CI principles, concepts, methodologies, and in the use of tools, to ensure timely completion of projects to deliver planned results. Deliver training on ALPS tools and leading ALPS strategy.
  • Support ALPS deployment on sites.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Three+ years of relevant work experience (operations, production, maintenance, logistics, (process) engineering, continuous improvement, etc.)
  • Training/ experience in continuous improvement methodologies (such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPM)
  • Experience in coaching and engaging others
  • Knowledge of business processes within paints and coatings manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving methodologies and root cause analysis (5 WHY, 8D, Fishbone)
  • Knowledge of project management methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of statistics to problem solve in both QA/QC and manufacturing
  • Project and stakeholder management skills - lead improvement projects within a limited scope and defined plan
  • Advanced skill in MS Office and ERP applications
  • Strong written, verbal, and computer skills, Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Excellent documentation and report writing skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Self-directed.
