Do you want to drive the transformation towards a more centrally coordinated pro-active occupational health model for AkzoNobel in the Netherlands?

AkzoNobel switches to a new service model for health and vitality in the Netherlands in Q4 2022. In this new model, we increase our focus on vitality and strengthen the support for our people managers and employees during sick leave, whilst at the same time offering specialized occupational health care through Arbo Unie in an extended partnership. To secure pro-active monitoring of occupational health and to leverage best practices in the market, we will introduce a new service model. Our ambition is to provide the right care and prevention for our employees to support them in a healthy career at AkzoNobel in the Netherlands.

To do this successfully and sustainable we are looking for a Vitality Manager. As our Vitality Manager you will work under the guidance of HR and in close partnership with the external service provider(s), Health Safety & Environment (HSE) and People Services.


Your main objectives are

  • Accountable for shaping our strategy and approach for vitality & well-being in NL within the frame of the broader (global/local) HR and HSE policy, newest internal and external insights and developments and legal guidelines (e.g. arbo). This approach should provide practical guidance for tailored and targeted actions (NL or per site) and should enable increased productivity and wellbeing, optimized manager and employee experience and sustainable employment. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders (HSE, HR, People Services/Case Managers) and external service providers, ensuring optimal information- and communication flow regarding health management, project progress, issues, dependencies, and risks.
  • Secure close alignment with operational and business leaders in the country as they are ultimately responsible for their employee’s health and wellbeing and the working conditions on site.
  • Centrally coordinates actions and initiatives for Occupational health management in AkzoNobel for the Netherlands and acts as linking pin between externally provided services and internal supporting activities to ensure the overarching objectives are met.
  • Leverages and connects expertise areas in the organization in such a way that health & vitality initiatives have maximum impact and continuously are adapted to learning from new internal and external insights.


Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing annual health & vitality plan for AkzoNobel the Netherlands.
  • Manages contract with external service provider(s) (agreed Service Delivery Model + added services needs based) and steers on agreed KPI’s. In consultation with Facilities; manages the adherence to agreed service delivery model to drive the value of our contract and control costs. Initiates improvements and negotiates adjustments to manage the quality and impact of services.
  • Monitors, reports and drives insights and actively uses these to continuously refine occupational health activities and initiatives to improve effectiveness and impact and prevent sickness. Where needed; initiate adjustments in processes, tools and ways of working to drive the best impact and best employee experience. Provide management with key information to better steer the situation.
  • Leverage internal and external resources to come to an optimal ecosystem on cost vs benefits (e.g. financial sources, initiatives) and enable people managers to work in an intuitive and effective way to support sick leave for their teams.
  • Leads projects in scope of the annual health & vitality plan and develops knowledge and capabilities within the organization to better drive initiatives in scope.
  • Coordinates and educates network for internal Confidentiality Advisors to secure we have a support infrastructure to foster a safe & inclusive work environment.
  • Manages and coordinates a selected set of internal and external services related to occupational health.


What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent thinking level.
  • Proven successful track record in occupational health management, vitality and sickness prevention, able to work in a complex matrix structure in a global setting.
  • Able to develop a strategy based on health & vitality data and best practices.
  • Pro-active, positive ‘’can-do’’ mindset, flexible and results driven.
  • Team player, pragmatic mindset, customer and service minded.
  • Individual must demonstrate to act autonomously, making optimal use of the qualities of others and influencing without authority.
  • Project management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Good organizational skills.
