Global Integrity & Compliance Third Party Program: This role is responsible for owning, designing and developing as well as leading the implementation of AkzoNobel’s Global Third Party Program, in order to ensure that AkzoNobel’s business partners embrace and embody AkzoNobel’s core principles, values and expectations, as well as to facilitate AkzoNobel’s compliance with but not limited to global anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, AML laws, and Human Rights/Modern Slavery laws.  This involves the creation and implementation of Third Party policies, rules, procedures, processes and supporting platforms and leading other Integrity & Compliance Program initiatives to drive common global processes in order to meet the rigorous international regulatory environment and intense focus on third-party business partners. 

Global Integrity & Compliance Monitoring and Risk Assessment Programs: This role will further build and implement the Integrity & Compliance monitoring and assessment activities (internal and for Third Parties) to ensure identification of current and emerging risks in an ever-changing external regulatory and internal business environment so that such risks are appropriately mitigated and the Integrity & Compliance Program’s resources are properly allocated.  This position will also help build a data analytics-driven monitoring program to help measure and to identify potential misconduct, assess compliance with policies and procedures, and recommend remedial actions that will shape other program areas, including policies, procedures and training.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop AkzoNobel’s Third Party Program and lead the implementation across the entire organization (eg R&D, Integrated Supply Chain, Commercial etc);
  • Engage senior management and lead cross-functional/ cross-regional teams and working groups to develop and implement Integrity and Compliance policies, rules, procedures, tools and platforms constituting AkzoNobel’s Third Party Program, including but not limited to inventory build, initial and renewed due diligence and vetting, training, risk remediation, monitoring and assessments; 
  • Design the Third Party Program Governance framework and finetune Supplier Standards;
  • Design and roll out  due diligence and decision making framework: identify risk criteria and risk tiering, due diligence information collection, analysis and decision, and engage relevant stakeholders; counsel on enhanced control measures to mitigate risks for vetted and chosen Third Parties; design and lead implementation of decision logging and risk remediation;
  • Assess suitability of vendors’ platforms and due diligence support;
  • Design and lead the global communication, training and education strategies and program to maximize awareness of AkzoNobel’s Third Party Program and other related programs, integrating them into the organization and with key business partners to ensure broad visibility to internal and external stakeholders; 
  • Design Key Performance Indicators and discuss with stakeholders to drive ownership within organization;
  • Participate on select acquisition and integration teams to ensure that potential liability in the Third Party Program area is fully evaluated and visible to appropriate senior management and to ensure that AkzoNobel’s Integrity and Compliance programs are appropriately integrated; 
  • Build the Integrity and Compliance risk assessment process on a global basis; 
  • Design and implement data analytics-driven global monitoring program to ensure the effectiveness of AkzoNobel’s compliance with Integrity and Compliance policies and procedures;
  • Lead the design, evaluation and implementation of controls and monitoring programs and the risk assessment process for new acquisitions, joint ventures and other business arrangements.

Education and Experience

Candidates should have the following:  
Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Legal and/or Finance or Accounting.  Minimum 10 years of demonstrated leadership experience with Third Party Programs, and/or Corporate Compliance (monitoring/assessments).  Experience working for an international business.


  • Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct;
  • Familiarity with the global framework affecting an international business, and good working knowledge of global laws and regulations relating to Integrity & Compliance risks including bribery, corruption, fraud, antitrust and competition issues, human rights, export controls and trade sanctions, AML; 
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate to issues and find solutions; ability to combine holistic view and strong analytical skills, set goals, and unite people to drive results;
  • Analyze and translate laws, regulations and policies into efficient business processes that incorporate global differences without sacrificing clear and concise instruction; 
  • Excellent oral communication and inter-personal skills to inspire and influence employees at every level to embrace AkzoNobel’s Integrity and Compliance initiatives;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness operating in complex organizational environments and self-starter qualities that will translate well in a large matrixed organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision in a team and matrix environment; sound judgment; 
  • Leadership abilities, with the desire, aptitude and sensitivity to involve multi-functional business leaders in Integrity & Compliance matters;
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively with others in addressing complex issues;
  • Extensive experience managing change and implementing operational excellence; and
  • Fluency in English is required; additional language capabilities are strongly preferred.
