Purpose of the job
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Risk Management Lead to join our global Risk & Internal Control team at AkzoNobel. In this key role, you will drive, develop, maintain, and support our Enterprise Risk Management framework worldwide, ensuring a consistent and effective approach to risk management throughout the organization.
Your contribution will directly support AkzoNobel’s ability to achieve its business objectives and fulfill its obligations to stakeholders, shareholders, employees, and society at large. Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute the Enterprise Risk Management process, including setting risk appetite, risk identification and assessment, mitigation, and monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and frameworks, such as the Dutch Corporate Governance Code and CSRD.
- Identify organizational and structural changes to anticipate and manage emerging risks.
- Secure the quality and effectiveness of ERM workshops by engaging relevant stakeholders and focusing on strategic business objectives.
- Co-facilitate workshops, translating strategic, operational, reporting, and compliance issues into actionable risk scenarios.
- Document workshop results and support risk reporting, including risk profiles and mitigation actions.
- Develop and supply risk dashboards and trend analyses for stakeholders across AkzoNobel.
- Contribute to the AkzoNobel Annual Report, particularly the risk management section, ensuring alignment with external requirements.
- Monitor developments in governance and translate new regulations into practical controls and reporting measures.
- Maintain and develop ERM tools, databases, systems, and internal platforms such as the ERM knowledge website.
- Deliver training on ERM tools and methodologies across the organization.
- Lead the setup of Risk & Control Matrices for CSRD and coordinate fraud risk assessments for external audit reporting.
- Act as a key contact and expert for risk process and content, participating in various steering committees and working groups.
What you bring
- Master’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC).
- Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive and results-oriented, with strong strategic insight and customer focus.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Strong planning, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Experience with COSO framework, Risk & Control Matrices, and Dutch Corporate Governance Code.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office; familiarity with ERM tools and databases.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Team player with a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
