Job Purpose

Lead the team that is responsible for achieving the project objectives. Project managers direct the planning and execution of a project and personally commit to the success of the project. They nurture the project to meet its objectives. To set scope and develop project plan, execute the business case and tactical plan, in line with the Business / Department strategy, project and functional standards ensuring a successful delivery of the aimed project result.

Key responsibilities

As a Project Manager you are responsible for managing and delivering the project on time, in full and on/below budget. You make sure that the project complies with the AkzoNobel Policies and Procedures for projects.

• Prepare & create the project plan and lead the project team during execution including handover towards the run organization
• Ensure proper stakeholder management and deliver value for the customer
• Define and negotiate project objectives, deliverables and roles when working with outsourced business partners
• Promote best practice methods, approaches and practices for project management across the AkzoNobel community through mentoring, coaching and demonstrating project management leadership
• Organize post project reviews and document lessons learned and contribute to have Projects Management and AN Project Management methodology continuously optimized
• Organizes work of IM team members, regularly updates AN PMO system and issue monthly project progress reports and discusses these with AN PMO manager and CIO Director. All in accordance with AN’s IM project methodology
• Reports project progress and seeks approval changes in scope, budget or timeline in the Project Steering Committee

• People management skills: ability to manage and motivate a large team of indirect reports, both in IM and business environments
• Good communication skills with compliance groups, suppliers, and colleagues at all levels in the organization
• Responsible for managing project financials in line with agreed project budget


• Masters degree in Information Management or Business Administration
• Certifications in market project management standards like: PMI/PMP, IPMA, PM-BOK, MSP or Prince2
• At least 10 years experience in Managing/leading IT projects
• Experience with managing complex business transformation projects and working together with different levels of business stakeholders
